I try to teach mine that trying your hardest and losing is far better than doing a half baked job and winning. You have to earn/deserve the prize. My Mr9 seems to succeed at everything he tries his hand to, even if he does it half a ssed. Mr12 has to put his all into things, and will still come off second best.

No.

 

I have never told them to win or be the best at anything. I am also don't praise them for things unless they are REALLY good at something.

 

I think that doing all of the above gives kids a false sense of confidence and will lead to constant feelings of failure as an adult.
