Government won’t budge on baby Asha despite more rallies planned outside Brisbane hospital

Medical staff at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital are still refusing to discharge Asha, a one-year-old asylum seeker has been treated for burns at the hospital, for fears she and her parents will be returned to detention in Nauru.

Juxtapose the above story with the situation in our courts.

Family law is failing kids

You seek help from community services who advise you to remove your children from harm’s way, but you are prevented from doing so because your ex-partner has shared custody ordered by the Family Court. You go back to court to review shared parenting, but a lack of evidence results in your ex-partner retaining unsupervised access. Your children remain at risk of ongoing harm. Unfortunately, this scenario is not an isolated case.

Courts send children to live with violent parents

COURTS are delivering children to their abusers and ignoring or disbelieving claims of domestic violence.

Academics in South Australia and interstate have found that children are sent to live with abusive parents because lawyers and judges are emphasising shared parenting, at the expense of the child's safety.

There are other such stories; the internet is replete with many accounts of judicial oddness. The medical staff at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital are needed in our courts to show magistrates and judges the error of their ways.
