Well LL John Howard did it so why can't another Lib PM, JH was tough and the do gooders cried but soon "no boats in Darwin harbour " I have family in Darwin and they were all thrilled when the boats stopped being towed into Darwin harbour.

Unfortunately this gov does not have the 'bouncers" to keep up the good work he did to stop the boats but the boats kept coming resulting in the loss of many lives, hope they sleep well at night knowing they are partly responsible for those deaths.

we have Howards policies in place now, they do not work. this indicates to anyone who stops and thinks for a moment that other things have changed. push and pull factors are something Abbott cannott control. will you call him a liar when he fails too ?

No Austerity won't work because nothing progresses during a downward turn like that....we'll just stagnate and become even more impoverished.  LL....I live in a region with one of the highest unemployment rates in the entire nation.  No excuse for it except that we've been a Liberal Safe seat for 16 years.   The fact that we have such a deplorable statistic doesn't seem to translate to any priority for either side....same for Tassie.

LNP never do anything or promise anything because they don't have to...meanwhile ALP don't do anything or promise anything because they're defeated before they start.   Just ask anyone in an LNP safe seat how much their regional economies are flourishing?.  They're not.  I guess however, that when Tony gets in and makes life miserable for the rest of Australia....we'll at least have had a lot of practice at being impoverished by LNP so it won't be such a shock for us.  Just more of the same.

Indeed anywhere in regional Australia without a mine to plunder is already entrenched in the recession that nobody will admit to.  

Just take a gander at Tasmania after years of ALP safe seat neglect.  Neither side seem to have what it takes to deal with the priorities.

One gives the other takes, but not on the basis of need - more like greed.....it's like we're yoyo's.  I'm seriously considering having my name removed from the roll = the choices aren't really choices for regional OZ and I'm getting to the stage where I can't be bothered deciding which wrong is more right.  Wow, that feels better - rant over....lol
