Yoda and Monman, I know that machines cannot and will not 'think' about what they do, but the point is the humans 'driving' them do, and therein is the problem when their hands are on the controls.
As you have said Yoda, and I agree, robots aren't 'thinkers' and it still may never happen ... at least in my lifetime thank goodness .. ๐

the pet project of Obamas (which may be just grandstanding) the mapping of the human brain ..may have application in developing artificial intelligence.

the true problem here lies not in the machine it lies in the fact that the act i it self is done at such a remote distance that the taking of a life becomes less than real & therefor easier to justify, a fully autonimous machine proggrammed with tripple redundancies may actualy be less likley to kill randomly or with due process than that of a person siting at a console for all intensive perposes playing a video game, all be it one with deadly conciquences.
history already shows us that when man kind is faced with killing at such a distance that you dont actualy see the results it is easier to justify both the indiscriminate taking of life & the taking of inisent or young life, this was played out in world war 2 where both the crews & planners of bombing missions on both sides of the conflict were able justify & carry out mass bombings on towns schools & hospitals. where as in the infantry the actual number of persons who were able to kill was quite low with the majority firing indiscrimanatly or deliberatly wide of their target.

KIH: " a fully autonimous machine proggrammed with tripple redundancies may actualy be less likley to kill randomly or with due process than that of a person siting at a console"
You will have to amplify that KIH. as autonomous basically means "Not controlled by others or by outside forces"
A standard bomb once dropped could be considered "autonomous" and during WWII only approximately 3% of them hit their intended target. the other 97% impacted (killed) randomly.
