A WA Liberal MP has claimed Australians are unknowingly being converted to Islam by eating Halal meat.

In a speech to Parliament yesterday, backbencher Luke Simpkins said most Australians did not know that most of the meat they ate came from animals killed in accordance with Muslim law.

“By having Australians unwittingly eating Halal food we are all one step down the path towards the conversion, and that is a step we should only make with full knowledge and one that should not be imposed upon us without us knowing,” Mr Simpkins told Parliament.

“What is happening is wrong. Too often the minorities in this country are looked after without regard to the majority.”

Mr Simpkins said he had carried out an unofficial survey in his northern-suburbs electorate of Cowan and had discovered that most meat at major chains such as Coles or Woolworths had been killed under Halal conditions, but had not been labelled as such.

He tabled a petition demanding that all Halal meat be clearly identified, complaining people could not buy meat for their “Aussie barbecue” without the influence of the “minority religion”.

So it seems very small percentage of abattoirs make use of a legal loophole to kill sheep (and only sheep) without stunning them first. Because the number of these abattoirs is so small and only sheep are ever killed in this way, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that they supply any of the big supermarket chains.

And Meep, I'd be really interested to know which of the worlds religions have a theological  prohibition against eating Halal meat- as opposed to those like Budhists who refrain from eating any kind of meat..

Think that MP just like all pollies just wanted to get their head in press with an outrageously stupid statement and like all pollies they're mostly all oh hang on I best not be using that word again :^O but it sums them up.

the way i read it , he is not talking about individuals waking up & sudenly being muslum he is talking about the gradual move into a muslum based society where rule & traditions are based around islamic laws & traditions rather than that of our current christian based laws traditions & way of life.

Seriously, everytime we have this discussion I provide links to information  about which (worlds) religions do not allow consumption of Halal and obviously no one reads them so pffft!!

I never actually considered objections from Buddhists until you just mentioned it.

Nationalist Buddhist monks and their supporters had launched a campaign last month to boycott halal-slaughtered meat, as well as other products that carry a halal certificate.

The monks argue that Buddhists should not be forced to consume food that is prepared according to Islamic rites, saying it demonstrates the undue influence of Muslims in Sri Lanka.

Doesn't sound like that to me. "Australians are unknowingly being converted to Islam by eating halal meat" just sounds like stupid comment, not some fear of being taken over slowly.
