'Entire NBN Co board quits'

It gets better everyday ๐Ÿ™‚

THE entire NBN Co board has reportedly submitted their resignations to Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The resignations have yet to be accepted by the minister, Fairfax Media reports, and a decision is to be made at a cabinet meeting in early October.

Mr Turnbull hinted in July, after NBN Co chief executive Mike Quigley quit, that he may sack board members from the organisation responsible for the national broadband network.

The coalition has blamed the board and executive team for massive cost blowouts, timetable delays and for contractors losing money.

Mr Turnbull said after the election that former Telstra boss Ziggy Switkowski would be well qualified for the role of NBN Co chairman.

The coalition's vastly different plan for the network would switch from the previous Labor government's fibre-to-the-home scheme to a cheaper fibre-to-the-node option.

???

The ABC has confirmed the board of NBN Co was asked to resign by the Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

He made the request last week, ahead of a board meeting on Friday.

All but one board member, Brad Orgill, tendered their resignation.

So a request is now a sacking.

when someone says to me, 'i want you to resign lakehead' i feel sacked. i do not feel as though i resigned of my own volition in that situation.

NBN Co is the most scrutinised GBE in the country.  Don't you keep up with the Senate Estimates Committee and Joint Committee hearings?

Is this correct? Telstra originally didn't want anything to do with the NBN.. then when they realised they were going to be left behind in the dust they wanted in on it?

If they want in on the NBN  then it is fair enough that they should not have been allowed to keep their copper lines as well.. can't have your cake and eat it too.

I think it was mainly space and costs that determined the copper lines could not stay after they rented their ducts and pits to NBN Co.  Telstra were not involved in the early trials and did their best to sign up residents in the early trial areas to new, better value, contracts to keep people off the trials and protect their business.

Turnbull:

He also told NBN Co to complete the fibre rollout where construction contracts are still current, with construction at 300,000 premises expected to be completed soon. Construction may potentially start at a further 900,000 premises currently listed on NBN Coโ€™s one-year rollout plan, where detailed design work has been done, depending on the outcome of the strategic review.

Construction is still current where I live.. we will still get fibre to the premises? Hope so.
