From something that would come to the attention of the ACCC to tinkering of a safety/electrical device?
Without going into specifics, in my line of work it is common with both of those and as horrible as it is I need to keep my job.
That would not hold up in court, would it?

As Trish said, anon call. Especially if you can be sure more than just you and the supervisor know about it, they can never really be sure who it was who made the call, they might not ever find out for sure a call was made.
Whistleblowers are protected by law, but it's likely you'd never work in the same industry ever again and if it's a small town you certainly wouldn't work anywhere near it ever again.
I'm not sure if the laugh about unions was because your workplace is non-unionised or if you're personally against unions but you are allowed to join a union of your choosing and pay your fees via direct debit from your bank account and your employer would never need know....until you called a union rep in.

I worked for a large hotel/niteclub on the GC, when I first started I was told one of the registers in the club was the managers "bonus" and wasn't counted, thought "Oh well, whatever". Over a few weeks it became obvious there was something else going on, the money in the safe was alwasy short, so the figures never balanced. I was then told the manager "borrowed" money on the w/e and went to the casino.
The other two workers were alswasy stressed out about the missing money but I thought they were crazy worrying about something that couldn't be fixed, no way the books would balance when the money wasn't there!
I left when I was told about the "two" sets of books, one for the tax man and one that was true.
No way was I going to be part of that and lucky for me I did leave as about 6 months later it all blew up ! The manager had had a pretty good run but it ended badly.

No it wouldn't hold up in court.
Topside, think about it this way... if the tinkering of the device cause the injury or death of a loved one, how would you feel?

I never tinkered with electrical devices for that reason alone. Fine to injure yourself, not if you injured someone else.

Not fine if because of your tinkering with safety/electrical devices ... someone was injured or killed .

Did not tinker with anything....I was saying that it would be fine if you killed yourself fr being dumb enough to work on something you are not qualified to do.....karma if you will.
The whole point was to judge how safe workplaces are in 2013.....from the really overly safe bunning who will not let me walk into the timber yard when there is a truck being offloaded 15m away, to my workplace who get regular safework complaints over and over and nothing fixed.

There was a bad accident recently that saw a lot of trucks from one haulage company taken off the road due to safety concerns.
I can't believe that only one person in that company knew if any short cuts were being taken and the truck driver has the ultimate say in the truck going onto a public road.
If just one person had made an anonymous phone call to the police what a difference it would have made.
Just a little advice, if you wish to dob a compnay in with workcover, the police the rms or whatever get a relative such as your wife to make the phone call. It makes it easier for you to continue to go to work each day.
