Well I certainly try to keep the commandments - or most of them.

Thou shalt not have strange Gods before me - I don't have any gods so I think I'm safe there..

Honour thy father and thy mother - that wasn't difficult, they were pretty honourable people.

Thou shalt not steal -  hmmm in my wild bedsitter days in Earls Court I did on one dark night  help an accomplice steal a "Danger Men At Work" sign to hang over his bed.

Thou shalt not kill: nopenever killed anyone.

Thou shalt not commit adultery: happily married to the same man for 51 years and never felt the need to stray.

Plus, I don't think I've ever given false testimony against my neighbour or coveted his wife or ass. Smiley LOL

I have learnt a lot from these posts. That indoctrination and brainwashing can be so strong that even providing evidence won't change someone's mind.

I once coveted my neighbour's Volvo P 1800 . does that mean I'm damned? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bob, it is arguable that those who have been brainwashed and indoctrinated by the purveyors of religion don't have very much mind left to be changed.

They choose belief over knowledge. It's a distinction which is lost on most of them.

Evolution just means slow change over time.  When we talk about species we talk about millions of years, when we talk about attitudes we can talk about much shorter time spans.  It is all relative.

I see so now you can just go and change the time frame for creation. From a week to millions of years yet religious scholars say the earth is fifteen thousand years old. As someone once said "you twist and turn like a twisty turny thing". Who really cares where we came from, we are all going to the same place and if you think you know where that is the you're a deluded fool. Do you remember anything from before you were conceived, NO. Will you remember anything after you die?

I assume you are talking to me? I have NEVER believed that the Creation was literal 'days'. Each 'day' or 'period' was an unknown period of time - millions, possibly billions of years long. I have never twisted or turned from that belief.  Some of those religious scholars you refer to actually think the whole galaxy is just over 6,000 years old.

You are correct in saying that we are all going to the same place - but incorrect in your statement that I do not know - I guess that makes me a deluded fool in your opinion - so be it. We are all going to the same place - it's NOT to burn in HELL or to Heaven. The place is called 'the grave' - of course that could be a jar on the mantlepiece somewhere or a plot of ground.

You are also correct in saying we cannot remember before we were born - we are NOT pre-existing Spirit creatures as some would tell you - we have NO ETERNAL SOUL - we have NOT existed before - when we die 'our thoughts do perish'.

And correct again - we will not remember anything after we die finally. * I say finally to negate the ones who will say, I died once on an operating table but they brought me back.

I do believe that animals, plants etc have evolved since originally Created. As I have said many times, of course things change to suit environment.

Finally, I do believe there is an ALMIGHTY GOD. I do believe in Jesus and his sacrifice. I do believe in his promise of a Resurrection.

** Does that sum it up for everyone?

AAHH,

Pardon me for being dense.

If you are going to spend your dead days in a jar on the mantle.

Resurrection seems a bit of a stretch.

Or am I missing something - like a bigger jar than I am imagining.

Doesn't have to be on a mantle somewhere - lots of people have their ashes scattered to the winds or in the sea.

Someone else asked this question - people who are buried end up as 'dust' eventually. So the difference between being so much 'dust' or some much 'ash' really isn't much. As far as Resurrection is concerned - don't you think that the Creator of all things, would know how to rebuild a body from either ash or dust  OR actually build a new, healthy one - I wouldn't want this old one with arthritis and kidney problems and no hair thanks.

And Yes, I know it sounds like a fairy tale, but the ODDS are no greater than 'everything began from NOTHING, then a Big Bang and then Life started from nothing and every life form on earth or in the sea morphed from a lifeless piece of space dust' - is it?.

All that believe in abiogenisis and a full fledged evolution from that point - go for it - believe what you want, but, it's not for me. Maybe I'll be disappointed when I die? BUT, hangon ... how can I be disappointed after I'm dead?
