I think this probably explains it more succinctly than I could. Even so, I'm afraid it's a bit of a scroller.

As you can see, there are many gaps in the sequence - it would be surprising if there were not and the 'tree will almost cetainly be expanded and modified as more evidence is found, but it gives you the general idea of how the overwhelming majority of scientists believe evolution works.

No, Rabbit, I'm sure you believe, just as I do, that those pieces of the 'true cross' were nothing more than fakes created to work on the credulity of gullible people. What I am saying is, just as those fakes do not prove the crucifixion never happened, so faked fossils do not prove that homo sapiens and modern apes did not evolve from a common ancestor.
No, but a few finds of now extinct Apes doesn't prove they did either.
I believe that during the millions of years of creation, God could have made all sorts of animals as 'test' cases for his eventual perfect creations.

Why are you so fixated on fossils? Paleontology is only one sciences among many involved in the study of evolution

I'm not fixated on fossils - it's just that's what most people use to prove evolution? So, who else?

Even without fossils. The evidence is overwhelming. Just look. With increased knowledge of science and genetics, instead of it disproving evolution, it just provide more and more support.

No Rabbit, it's just what most doubters use to try to disprove evolution. Darwin didn't havea modern colection of fossils at his disposal when he first propounded the theory, those who have a basic understanding of what evolution really involves understan that the evidence comes from sciences as diverse as botany, biology, gentics and microbiology..

Unfortunately Bob, only for those who want to see...

"botany, biology, gentics and microbiology."
I have seen a few docos on genetics?
do you have any thing to read / watch ? preferably on-line.

Not really online, most of my understaning came from boks. I don't pretend to be an expert so can't quote chapter and verse, but most of Dawkins's books - apart from The God Delusion of course - are academically based and I think you could read them without feeling insultied, even if, ultimately, you disagree with him.
One of the points he makes is that evolution cannot go back to the drawing board to redesign anything, it can only adapt, as best it can, what is already there. This means that many . He gives examples from aspects of the anatomy of a giraffe's neck, the human testicle and human sinuses. I'd have to go back to the books to explain his findings properly .
BTW Rabbit, please don't feel that because I challenge your beliefs I don't respect either them or you. I was a regular churchgoer until a few years ago, when I found I could no longer convince myself there was a God. But I do have many friends who are committed Christians and though I cannot share therir beliefs - and if challenged will energetically defend my lack of belief - I would never mock them for holding those beliefs.
