That's exactly what I am saying. Not only money but prestige? "I found the Peking Man." etc etc
Talking of Peking Man - I just read that the Bones disappeared in transit to USA in 1941 - and have never been found ?? shades of John Smith?

And if you were to read the records from mental hospitals you would find plenty of people claiming to be Jesus, - should we use this "evidence" to prove God doesn't exist?
Hi ele. Are you saying that these were not fakes?
Science is not static, new discoveries are made, and past mistakes are corrected. And yes, there were some hoaxes, but mostly they are just wrong conclusions. When mistake is made with one fossil, it does not mean that all past discoveries are wrong, and mistake is not fraud.some of those weren't mistakes - they were intentionally fraudulent - dyed bones etc to make them appear older. Parts discovered miles away and incorporated into the one composite skeleton.
Isn't it what I said above? The thing is that there are millions of fossils, and scientist are studying them not to prove something, but to learn how they fit together. The hoaxes are uncovered by scientist, just as are the mistakes. And none of it makes any substantial difference to evolution.

all of those civilizations then are less than 6,000 years old? Are there any records of civilizations prior to that?

But are you saying that those fakes prove evolution never hapened?

There is not much prestige if the "discovery" is later proved false, actually that is definite end of one's career.

I certainly am NOT saying that. I believe that evolution (ie adaptation to environment) definately happens / happened. Blind Paddy can see that. BUT ..... what I am saying is that, if there were SOME FAKES, how many more are there???
I am also saying that while dog breeds have evolved over the years (and cats, horses and whatever else) - NONE OF THEM HAVE EVER CROSSED THE SPECIES BARRIER. ** except I guess horses and donkeys but they only give neuter Mules, so NO ongoing generations.

Careers have a habit of ending when you die. Some of those FAKES took 30 or 40 years to find so I assume that most of the finders would be skeletons themselves waiting to be dug up at a later date and pondered over.

Somehow I don't think creating a new species is the object of the exercise in dog breeding..
