"I didn't really want David to go to jail, I actually just wanted him to say sorry years ago but he couldn't find in himself to do that or acknowledge what he did so today he has to deal with the consequences of that.
"So many years ago I said to David 'All I want you to do is to tell your wife so that she could be the judge and to acknowledge what you did' and he refused time and time again and now his wife has to bear the shame of having his name exposed like this and his crimes exposed like this.
"He could have avoided all of this many, many years ago by saying 'Yes, I admit that what I did was wrong and I'm sorry'."
The victim urged others who had faced sexual abuse not to suffer in silence.
"I think it's very important for young men who've been through similar experiences to find the courage to step up and face the perpetrators so that it doesn't create a sense of permission," he said.
"If we stay silent about this, it will just allow it to go on happening again and again and this is my way of helping to stop it happening.
"There was a time in my life when I was afraid to stand up for myself and now I'm no longer afraid to do that. I've found the courage within me to face him so that timid teenager is gone, I'm now the man that I need to be."
