THE world’s popular social networking site of Facebook has gone down tonight across the world, leaving users unable to log in.
Users have hit Twitter to express their angst about the site being down, after they got this error message from Facebook.
It is not clear what is causing the outage yet.

Well, I don't know if I am just making excuses. I couldn't be without the internet. Just this morning my OH asked me about an Australian artist he liked, but couldn't remember her name. I had her name in 30 seconds, as well as images. Now I love her paintings too and intend to read more about her. Freda Robertshaw.
Also I spent months in hospital, in a single room, one hour away from family. My laptop kept me sane.
As for newspapers, our monthly paper bill is heading for $100. We have decided to dispense with delivered papers and subscribe online. Purely for dollar reasons.

Lurker, who is bagging anyone out? Obviously we are all using the internet for social media right here on CS.
There does have to be some kind of balance though and for many it has taken over.
In some situations such as Katy's then it is a God send and for people that live in remote places, I'm sure they would not like to live without it.

Such a non-event.. It was down for 30 minutes... The message I got when trying to log in for the 4th time was that they were performing maintenance and therefore users couldn't access their accounts.. Not everyone was affected at the same time...

According to family and friends who were affected, it was up to a half a day for some. The message I got when logging in was that they didn't know why it was down and were working on fixing it.
A lot of people use it as a business tool now, many B & M businesses also have a fb page as an add on to their business, offering deals etc with fb codes.
I don't write letters, I send emails or occasionally type one up and snail mail it.
My personal fb is a keep in touch place with family and friends, we still do phone calls and visits, no problem with communication here!
We do share photos, especially when some are overseas and can't communicate easily.

It works for us, but I can appreciate (as well as sympathise) that it is addictive for the majority as well as useful and meaningful to them.
It's not necessarily an addiction, more a way of keeping in touch with the family and friends whether they live near by or far away. The oldies are loving the way they can share news with their grand children and see pics of their great grandchildren or video chat with them all. Around here people use facebook to buy, sell and give away stuff, promote businesses and charity events or anything really.

Yes, I know how it works so I don't disagree with that ...
We know many people who are 'addicted' to it in that very sense of the word though as they can't move themselves away from it for any reason, so I wasn't generalising per se, that's why I also mentioned the fact that it is useful and meaningful to a lot of people also. xx

I didn't notice it down.

I read about it here first lol.
I do like FB for the community pages and the buy, swap and sell stuff locally.
