Yes they do. The landholders are (ignorantly) afraid they will have their land taken away and the aboriginals are afraid the landholders will destroy it. The Red Chief folk are trying to document all the sites in this area so they have a written map sort of thing. They don't want to annex the land they just want to be able to have a record of their family history so to speak.
Glee, do I haveto answer that? 'coz I don't know. I just know that at last weeks polly meeting one of them stood up and thats what he told us. We were also told, in not so many words that there wasn't anything that could stop this mine. If anyone has a previously undiscovered grub or frog or beetle or something in their back pocket, it would be really good if you could sprinkle a few of them around the ridges. Ta muchly.
I hope not too many of the protections have been erased yet. I haven't been following those changes closely but have seen some of what is listed to be erased on the red tape repeal days. They want mine approval to be a 14 day process with a we trust you to do right so no need for rules and regs attitude. It's mind blowing to read. They brag about how many environmental rules they can erase in a day.

Here's a bit about last year's attempt to dump the water trigger legislation.

The Nationals, along with the Liberals and Labor, have today failed to support the Australian Greens’ Senate motion calling for the Liverpool Plains to be off limits to CSG and coal, including the Shenhua Watermark mine.
“The Nationals Senators all fled the chamber for the vote, while the Liberal and Labor Senators voted against our call for the protection of the Liverpool Plains,” Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens mining spokesperson, said
“The Nationals didn’t even have the guts to go on record and tell their constituents whether they think the Liverpool Plains should be permanently off-limits for coal and coal seam gas mining.
“The Nationals are playing both sides, saying one thing in regional communities and then doing another in the Parliament while taking donations from the mining and gas industry.
“The Liverpool Plains, with rich black soil, excellent water resources and ideal climatic conditions, is one of Australia’s most important farming regions.
“It’s blatantly hypocritical of the Nationals to purport to care about agriculture and then to stand by while this valuable farmland is trashed.
“The vote today indicates that federal Coalition has extended the Shenhua approval date so that it’s after the election, not because of concern about water impacts.
“It’s farcical for Environment Minister Hunt to boast about federal environmental checks, given he is trying to hand federal environment powers to state governments.
“If Minister Hunt had successfully handed over these powers, the decision would be left to the NSW government, which has already approved the Shenhua mine.
“The Greens are proud to have secured the numbers in the Senate to block the Abbott Government’s plan to hand federal environment powers to state governments, which would wind back 30 years of protection,” Senator Waters said.
New South Wales Greens Tamworth candidate Pat Schultz, who has campaigned for the protection of the Liverpool Plains against mining for the past three years, said:
“Our fertile plains are essential to our community and they must be protected for generations of locals to come.
“The Greens always have and always will stand up against the big mining companies to protect our land, water and climate.

says it all really, doesn't it Mining above all else.
I really do understand the need for mining revenue to bolster our country, but geez, not t the expense of our water and agriculture.
It's just heartbreaking.

Research by the Australia Institute found tax and royalties paid by all mining companies made up less than 5 per cent of combined federal and state government revenue.
Analysis of state government budget papers found 2 per cent of NSW revenue came from coal mining specifically, while in Queensland the figure was 4 per cent.
"To put it in perspective, in both Queensland and NSW they raise about the same amount of revenue from car licences and registration and traffic fines as they do from coal royalties," Mr Campbell said.
"But I don't see Mr Joyce running around saying the country would go broke if it wasn't for car rego."
Economic Analysis presented to the PAC hearings indicated that Australia wouldn't see any royalties from Shenhua for donkeys years. (can't remember the figure but it was something like 20 years)

Yes, the proposed mine is huge and their claims don't stack up. We have Robb, who is the wrong person for the job, selling us out overseas with secret agreements such as the TPP. Not only do they dry the water up, they flatten the hills, pollute the little water that remains, and cover everyone and everything with layers of grime.
