on the face of it the story seems silly
but in this day of huge money spent on cricket perhaps the doing of anything to the ball beyond bowling it, hitting it with a cricket bat, fielding it and returning it to the bowler should be stopped.
all the rubbing it, spitting on it, throwing it onto the ground to rough it up. anything not 'normal wear and tear' should be outlawed.
i have thought for a long time that doing anything 'on purpose' to the ball in order to make it 'do' things ought to be outlawed.
