The Sydney Morning Herald has retracted and apologised for publishing a cartoon described by Jewish leaders as racist and admitted it was a serious error of judgment to publish it.
The cartoon, which accompanied a column by Mike Carlton last month, has been removed from the paper’s websites.
Jewish community leaders and many others had written to the Herald to complain about the cartoon and the Australian Jewish News had called for its readers to boycott Fairfax Media’s publications.

I find it distasteful that a main stream media outlet (Fairfax) found it OK to post this racist article and racist cartoon. It was racial vilification at its worst
I know there are many anti Semite sites who wallow in hatefilled disgusting cartoons but they are not a Fairfax newspaper and in the 21st century for a paper to publish that is unacceptable.
They have now used their EDITORIAL to publish an apology and that's the end of it. I'm sure Carlton will be carefully scrutinised in the future as a boycott was called on Fairfax media and they couldn't possibly survive that.

So, what you are saying is that is racist to state facts, and to depict a fact in cartoon when the subjects are Jewish? Are you disputing that Israelis are sitting on the hill top, eating pop corn and clapping?

No I am not saying it's racist to state facts! those are your words, I find it puzzling that you feel it's OK to support terrorist Hamas and the horror they are perpetrating on their people.

I think the general concensus is Fairfax published a racist cartoon and allowed the racial vilification comment by Carlton.
Fairfax has withdrawn the cartoon, it's no longer on their site and they have made a full apology in Editorial format to that fact.
They realised just how racist it was and have unreservedly withdrawn and apologised.
What I find curious is that many on here are still defending it.

So none of it is Israels doing? Israel aren't dropping bombs, blowing up tunnels, shelling schools, mosques and hospitals, sending in drones, F16's and apaches, this is all the work of Hamas?

Oh !
There are some israeli people sitting on the hillsides watching the attacks like a movie and you think it's racist anti-semite to show images of that? Or shock horror, draw a cartoon showing the reality of that.
do you seriously believe that one side is all good and virtuous and the other side all terrorists?
Surely nobody is that narrow minded.
Do you remember Nelson Mandela? The world's most wanted terrorist!
