a true rat rod has carpy paint. the european car scene has some great surface rust in some circles, they rub it down to bare metal in places for the right effect.

My sister used to drive a 1939 Plymouth. Gawd I loved that car.
You could have a party in the back seat.
Suicide doors. Had string attached to the windcreen wipers and threaded
through the windows, so the passenger could see-saw the wipers in the
rain. And running boards - can't forget them.
