Force Of Habit

This morning I went to put our kitchen waste into the big bin that gets picked up weekly on Tuesday's.

I'd seen the bins lined up on the grass verge of the footpath. Seen and heard the truck come and empty them. Saw the empty bins with their lids flipped back lined back up on the verge.

Yet still on my way out absentmindedly unlocked the gate to the bin room only to find it empty of bins.

I do that on a regular basis.

At least when you found yourself in the bin room, you knew why you were there.

I reasonably frequently find myself in various locations around the house (laundry, tool room, freezer room) and have no idea why I am there! I have to back track mentally to where I came from and try to recreate the thought chain to remember what I meant to do.

Sometimes I don't bother........

or the other day, I was heading home, saw the sign to uni and for some reason took that turnoff. Wasn't till I was there that I was like... huh????

Re: Force Of Habit

There are times when I walk down to the local shops and can't find my car.....

Also, when my kids were in Primary School, I usually ended up with a gaggle of kids after school so the rare times when those kids were to be dropped off at their respective homes instead, I'd automatically drive them to my place.

Re: Force Of Habit

I once went into the bedroom, and for the life of me couldn't remember what it was I'd gone in for. So, thinking if I went back into the living room, the reason would come back to me. When I opened the door, I found all the lights out and the TV turned off. It was only then I realised that I'd gone to bed. Honestly. I kid you not.

Woman LOL

I'm so used to getting the red light at the top of our street that I automatically slow down to stop even (on the odd occasion) when the light is green.
