If we, as a society, accept the concept of freedom of speech, should we also accept the concept that there is a line which must not be crossed, and if so, where do we draw that line?

what about if you crossing the line because its fun is going to put others at risk?
whilst you do have the right to cross that line do you think its the right thing to do?
And there it is.
Apparently you can cross that line when it suits your agenda.
not sure how you got that from my question but ok....

Humans were not meant to be totally safe from all things all the time. We can't afford to be living forever. Do you know how crowdwd it would be? Risk is life and taking away freedom doesn't make us safe, quite the oppisite, it puts us in far more danger by those tasked with keeping us safe. Police in a corrupt systen that don't allow for honesty or morality in their ranks.

If I'm crossing it, I must believe so, otherwise, I wouldn't be now would I? If or not it is the right thing to do can be up for debate.

Because when you accept that you cannot speak your mind, what is left? You sit in the dark.

Nero, Have you ever thought - really thought - about what totally unrestricted freedom of speech could lead to in practice?

Irrelevant. It's not about you or what you believe. And I wonder why you think it is?
Freedom to speak our minds is evolution, for some of the population.
Joanie, I like more and more of what you're posting the past few days.
I didn't ever say it was about what I believed. If you read my posts you will see I have carefully refrained from offering an opinion. I asked Nero if she had seriously considered whst the consequences would be of unregulated free speech, and if she would be happy to live with those consequences. I'll ask you the same question. If you are comfortable with seeing Der Strumer type anti semitic - or anti any group - cartoons in your daily paper, fine, that's your prerogative, if you are not, then where and how do you tink a line should be drawn.

Once freedom of speech and of the press is taken away we are no better than North Korea.
Sadly there are some that would welcome that and welcome a North Korea style of govt and maybe even some are on this forum. At least one poster on here has in the past admitted to being a devotee and supporter of the North Korea leader and his style of communism

That North Korean claim is just hideous. To accuse posters of being devoted to the NK leader is childish in the extreme.

I do think there should be limits in daily papers and in a civilised society people deal with any issues of offence within the laws of the land. I also think there are different standards for publications of satire in the adult market place. Gratuitous offensive cartoons are, imo, vastly different from political current affairs type of cartoons.
Is law the way to deal with it? Tough question. Education and discussion about the need to change our habits maybe not enough in some ways but obviously not enough to change other habits therefore rules or laws are introduced.
Regardless of the level of offence there is no excuse for murdering rampages.
As for the different targets, I think the Israelis should cop the full dose of satire for editing out the women. They should have the manners to apologise and publish the original.

I would call them very strict Orthodox jews as opposed to Israelis as it occurs the world over.

I don't need to increase or bold any fonts, and I post in English, because I am Australian.
The question is, why do they effect you so much? Who seriously gives a toss about all this? Those with an agenda. The average person doesn't care. They are too busy trying to make ends meet, and still getting to spend time with their family.
Most of the posters here seem to live the "good" life. So how dare you?
