Burwood Girls High School: Anger over gay parenting documentary ‘Gayby Baby’
PARENTS are angry that a prominent government high school had organised for its 1200 students to watch a documentary on gay parenting instead of normal classes.
Burwood Girls High School sent a flyer to parents last week saying all students would attend a special screening of the documentary Gayby Baby during periods two and three on Friday. Students were instructed to wear purple, with purple cupcakes served after the movie.
But after a backlash from parents, including outrage at the flyer which depicted a young, shirtless boy with a tattoo on his chest, principal Mia Kumar yesterday offered parents the option to exclude their daughters from the screening if they notified the school in writing.
NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli has now directed the Department of Education to ensure the film is not shown in school hours, telling 2GB Radio on Wednesday while the schools accepted diversity, “schools are not places for political issues to be aired”.
“During school hours we expect them to be doing maths and English and curriculum matters.
This movie is not part of the curriculum and that’s why I’ve made that direction,” Mr Piccoli said.
He also admitted that he hadn’t seen the film, which follows the lives of several children with same-sex parents.

How dare they?
Who is pushing this relentless homosexual agenda, and why?

As a prefect, I had access to certain rooms in the convent, and 2 other prefects and I were returning some kitchen utensils that had been used at a parent/teacher function. The 3 of us were discrete and kept their secret. I reasoned that it was none of my business.
Azure,I didnt mean to offend you or anyone else. Im sorry if I did.
It was only in context to the innuendo in another posts of an all girls school.
Not offended at all, my reply should have had a laughy face, I did think it was funny and knew the context,
As for the bullying of the student who chose not to dress in the colour etc, my comments were really about the misrepresentation of what bullying is. The sister had an agenda, I doubt her story was complete and unblemished.

Apparently it never was compulsory that students attend the film or that they wear purple.

it's a fact that some children live with same sex parents.
it's a concept which people who don't live in that situation, might find strange
and therein lies the value of exposing people to consider this situation, and to listening to other people who have lived in it.
I have to wonder if the parents who were 'angry' were infact concerned that their children might be or become far more accepting than they are.

good question.
it wasn't going to be just a screening -
it was going to be a celebration with cup
cakes and fashion parade....seriously..
1. I find this picture on the poster disturbing - why a naked child? Why a tattoo?
2. Purple cupcakes and fashion parade under the rainbow flag.
If a former student was a murderer in gaol, would they have a documentary with a child describing what it was like going to visit Mummy behind bars? Followed with a fashion parade and cupcakes under the "Inmates Rights Association" flag?'
Look, I don't mind anyone attending a documentary about different aspects of Life as told by anyone. But to make it a celebration? During school hours?
DEB
Can I please ask why you find the picture so disturbing? Is the child really naked? How can you tell? All I see is a young child's bare upper torso. You can see one of those at any swimming area, sometimes at a park, sometimes even down the street.
Also, the Tattoo, you are so worried about it not a tattoo at all. If you care to take a closer look at the pic, you can clearly see the outline surrounding the picture which clearly indicates that it is a sticker, possibly a rub-on-sticker type.
What I would like to know is.... Has anyone bothered to ask the students what they thought of the film?
I dont have a problem with it.. or purple day.. or rainbow flags.. or purple cupcakes...or the gay community... or the schools actions regarding and/or surrounding this event.
Lets not get carried away... it was JUST 2hrs! hardly worth turning your hair grey over that really!
I applaud the School. Good on you for trying to break free from narrow-minded, judgementally swayed, intollerant, and biased views of the last generation.
I read a saying once, that said. ...... instead of trying to leave a better planet for our children, how about leaving better children for our planet!
I think this school is trying to embrace that!
I will definately watch the doco.

How can anyone equate same sex parents with murder?

The red herrings continued to rain down in a deluge, the ever increasing speed is matched by the speed with which they are swallowed.
So much debate over a non issue which has grown out of all proportions.
The fact remains that homosexuality is NOT the normal human condition, therefore if it is not normal it is abnormal.
To promote tolerance of this abnormal condition may be ok, but to try to turn it into normal is not acceptable.
Promoting and even celebrating the abnormal as thought it was something special to be admired is ..............dare I say it ..............stupid.
If homosexuality becomes the normal condition then heterosexuality takes on the role of the abnormal.

Let me tell you a little story.
To look at my Mr Elephant you would assume he was a compeletely normal, rational, heterosexual human being, but in fact in one aspect of his makeup he deviates very sharply from the norm ' His abnormality' isn't a lifestyle choice - it is something he was born with, but in earlier days it was considered so abhorrent it caused revilsion, persecution and could even have cost him his his life. Indeed the Latin equivalent of the word used in part to describe it is also a synonym for sly, evil, malevolent and even demonic.
Even in the more enlightened times of the 20th century, so undesirable was his deviance considerd that throughout his childhood stre
nuous efforts were made to 'cure' him of it - efforts which caused him a great deal of angst and confusion while he was growing up. Of course these well meaning efforts ultimately proved a complete waste of time and nowadays, thank goodness, people are a lot more sensible and well informed and he is able to live quite happily with his abnormality without anyone remarking on it.
Yes folks, Mr Elephant is LEFT HANDED.
