What law change? In my lifetime it has always been a requirement to have valid ID shown upon request for the activities I mentioned.
The passport was clearly stated as being a valid form of proof one's visa was in order. As per the point of this thread. As initially the press release was stating ANYONE could be asked about visas.
zero, misinformation.

That is the law where I am.
you need to present ID to the police, or as said, have a very good reason why you don't have any on you. I know someone who was fined.

Lucky you. With age comes a certain presence ๐
anyway...there is the law. Proof of age not just name and address for the police if requested. The Hawk, might be different where you are of course.

Part of this initiative is to check on visas. The easiest way to prove one's legality on that point, is to carry an Australian passport, surely
If you have an Australian Passport, you don't need a visa.

That is my point. Proof of being an Australian and by default the "visa check" is passed. Being redundant.

that does not say you have to carry ID only that you have to prove your age if buying alcohol.
and you only have to provide name and address to police if they believe you have committed a crime, not actual ID
