Where are these feral kids going to be held now that Don Dale Correctional Centre has been closed?
It's not like they can be sent home with a slap on the wrist.
Most of them are too damaged to be released into the community.
Which begs another question: will they eventually become 'undamaged' and if not should they be institutionalised for the rest of their lives?

Well it was actually closed by the Federal Govt when they didn't need it any more after 'stopping the boats'. From what I understand it is in pretty good condition though.

Poor parenting would be a start.
Alcohol, drugs, neglect, sexual abuse.

Very difficult to "undamage" someone with that sort history. It would take a lot of intense counselling and care. Where are the resources for that sort of in-depth counselling?
Stretched thin as is to prevent new youngsters from even falling into that type of life.

NT government sues boys over Don Dale incident
In court documents the government alleges that during the escape the boys damaged or destroyed electronics and computers, used a fire hose to flood rooms and corridors, applied paint over walls and destroyed or damaged furniture, ceilings, walls and doors causing $89,000 damage.
A further $74,000 was caused two days later when the pair drove a stolen car into the inner roller door at Don Dale, the government claims.
The boys in this case, whose names have been suppressed by the NT Supreme Court, filed papers in June seeking damages for alleged mistreatment by Don Dale staff.

Did they show footage of that on 4corners?
I beleive the suit has since been dropped against the boys.
Boys!
What are they going to be like as full-grown men?

What are they going to be like as full-grown men?
Hopefully not as bad as this.

And the judge who gave these killers such lenient sentences because he decided that despite the fact that they had tried to run the victim down in ther car, kicked him ithree times in the head, and struck him over the head with a bottle, it was impossible to know if Mr Ryder's fatal brain haemorrhage was caused by him hitting his head when he fell, or by the blows inflicted.as he had a pre-existing aneurism, which could have burst at any time (the pathologist who examined the body had said there was no evidence of an anuerism but it was likely that he had one.). Is the same man who will be running the Royal Commission. Gives one a wonderful sense of confidence, doesn't it.

Not in the least.
It gives one the the sense of a horrible sense of "**bleep** for tat", that doesn't belong in a community where ppl just want to get along with each other.

Half the old really bad crims that used to run Melbourne Crime came from boys homes where they were beaten and sexually abused, treat children like dogs and sooner or later they will bite and bite hard.
