Introducing Google Fiber Poles It’s easy to get used to ultra-high speed Gigabit speeds. Websites load instantly, photos upload in seconds, and you never have to wait for web videos to buffer. That’s why, once you’ve used Google Fiber, it’s hard to go back to regular connectivity.
We’ve heard this feedback a few times from our customers in Kansas City; it seems that some folks have become hesitant to leave their home connections. They want to be able to have access to Fiber even when they’re out and and about in KC, not just within the confines of their own home.
So my team of engineers started thinking about possible solutions. How do you get a Gigabit everywhere in the community? We realized that the answer was all around us — utility poles. Poles already have our Fiber strung to them; all we had to do was come up with a way to make that Fiber accessible. That’s what we’ve done today. I’m happy to announce our newest project: Google Fiber Poles.

Frequently Asked Questions
* Can I adjust my connection according to my height?
Yes! Each pole has 16 Fiber connections to start. You can move the connection up and down the pole depending on your height or convenience level.
* The pole doesn’t recognize my QR code. What should I do?
If the pole does not recognize your code, that means your phone is not sending the right frequency waves into the gigabit network to activate the pole. Don’t fret - our local Fiber team members at the Google Fiber Space are ready to help. Simply stop by and ask them for a quick phone tune up.
* My pole is always busy - people literally camp out there 24/7. How can I get access to my Fiber Pole?
The behaviour you are describing is called Pole Hogging. We’ve heard this can be a problem and we are working on ways to detect the Pole Hoggers are institute a 2 hour ban for their use every 2 hours they use. Until we perfect our Pole Hogging Detector technology, we ask that users do not stay for more than 2 hours when others are waiting. If this is a problem, please call the Fiber Space and ask for a Fiber Chaperone to come to your Pole and explain proper Pole etiquette.
* I do not have a Fiber Pole in my fiberhood. When will we get built out?
We are building out Fiber Hot Poles in all KC fiberhoods and construction will be complete by April 8, 2013. To find out when we will be building Fiber Hot Poles in your fiberhood, check out our
