One Of The Women In This Photo Has Grace, And One Of Them Is Just Named Grace
If you’re a leftie, then the tweet I’m about to share with you is going to do your head in. It’s one of those opinions that, if you value humanity, compassion, courage, selfless sacrfice blah blah blah, is almost impossible to understand.
Late yesterday, uber-conservative columnist for The Australian, Grace Collier, decided to share her thoughts on Ebola with the world.
“Why do Australians go overseas, expose themselves to a hideous disease, then come back and risk infecting the rest of us? #Ebola”.

Why does our government not understand the simple mechanics and effectiveness of the principles of Quarantine, and not restrict the travel to this country of those from countries where Ebola is rife?
Oh, but "sales would plummet" . . . meanwhile, back at the ranch . . .

I'm all for sending aid. Our Aussie govt is only sending money right now, and what is needed is skilled people. and maybe some money as well.
I was only considering the logic of using a tried and trusted method . . . that of quarantine, to prevent the unrestricted travel overseas of those known to have come from an affected area.
It's the logical approach, but it will cost a lot in lost business opportunities for some. And the lure of filthy lucre is arguably a worse affliction than any communicable disease.

We can send skilled people in to help and we can control and monitor their leaving when their work is done. I think we should do that.
But i think it is an obvious safeguard to maintain a quarantine for all those coming into this country from an area known to be infected with Ebola.
Australia is not new to the idea of quarantine. It's an old method of control of the spread of infective disease, but it's an effective method.
Meanwhile, spare no effort in manpower or money to give assistance to help stamp out the incidence of this disease in the countries where it occurs.
There is an ideal solution and then there is another one which is dictated by those who would rather weigh the risks to the general population and compare that to their personal financial risk if travel for business purposes were restricted.
Guess which party is going to make the more forceful and ultimately successful case?
