Working in Antarctica
Are you looking for a truly unique, challenging and rewarding work assignment?
The Bureau regularly recruits staff for expeditions to Antarctica. We offer employment as meteorologists, weather observers and technical officers - engineers to work at our three continental stations, Casey, Davis, Mawson and our subantarctic station, Macquarie Island.
Our assignments are usually of 16 months duration, with an initial 4 to 6 months preparation and training in Hobart, followed by an Antarctic expedition of approximately 12 months.
Departure is usually between November to April, depending on the location of the station you have been selected for.
The Antarctica remuneration package includes competitive salaries, additional Antarctic Allowances of up to $54,595 per annum, travel and accommodation, clothing and food.

Nice place to visit, but you would not want to live there.

I knew a few people that used to do that years ago for 6mths (support jobs)..one was a hairdresser, her partner also went their to work at the same time. Worth it for the money they made.
Dark 24 hours a day for months on end.. I don't know about that!

I think it would take a certain type of person to stay there in a relativly confined area with the same people for months on end. I had a friend who worked there a few years ago. He was one of the mildest mannered and gentle people I have ever met.

It would be an amazing experience if you could handle the extremes, of everything. Food, people, isolation, cold, wind, light, dark.
