Do not like the show, but may watch it because the stories I have heard of Hillsong are quite jaw dropping.
Nothing wrong with making money, though I think the lord may have a problem if you use him/her to accumilate personal wealth in their name.

Can someone please clarify for me, because I find it really difficult; when something good happens it's God's will eg. "Yay my car keys, thank you lord Jesus" and "Young Sarah diagnosed with brain cancer died this morning" Why didn't he help? Was she bad? Did she not have a soul? Was she not baptised? Did Daddy not give tarry on Sunday?
Why is he helping you find your keys and not helping sick kids? Sounds like a right numpty
It'd be like this Law of Attraction belief. If you do not get the desired results the Universe is telling you there is a lesson to be learnt from it. Everything happens for a reason. Similar concepts. (How much can you get a copy of The Secret for?)

Counter your statement? I took that as a question: "Can someone please clarify for me..........?"
To best answer your question, I chose The Secret due to a bias against Theism on this forum.

I don't really understand what makes people follow any group or religion.
Why do people need to be told to pray to this God or give to this church?
I don't believe that God belongs to any group or any religion.
I pray when I want, to a God I believe is just there for the whole universe, and I give to a charity or charities I feel need my help, why go through 2nd and 3rd parties where everyone gets a cut.
Just makes people look like mindless sheep to me, or they lack self esteem to be able to make a decision of their own.

Margo, people follow religions for different reasons. They attend churches, mosques, synagogues, temples because they may find that its a place where they can pray or meditate/reflect without external disruptions. They may find it more of a spiritual experience. Some believe it is an obligation based on their faith's teachings.
Why do people choose to be part of any religion at all? Why the need to belong to anything? Why belong to any particular community? Many different reasons.
People may choose to follow religions at different stages of their lives. Lack of self esteem? Possibly but if that's what helps them to improve it and give a sense of belonging, what difference does it make what social club, community or religion they join? I don't think you can belong to too many organisations without paying membership fees. Mindless sheep? I think quite a few would resent that label :^O

Meep my mother was 93 when she died and she was still terrified to die, worried she would not go to Heaven.
I used to believe in hell that it actually was this place of fire and a guy with a pitch fork to prod me into it.
Thank God I grew a brain.
Religion is a crutch that people need to lean on and I will never lean on such a crutch again.

Yep, you're right Margo, that's another reason people turn to religion. To use it as a crutch. If its holding them up, that has to be a good thing?

What a load of rubbish, having faith in something is anything but a crutch... The reality is we all believe in something...

Margo I am sorry your mum went through that that is not how it is supposed to be 😞
