A NEW mum says she was brought to the brink of tears after a hairdresser refused to cut her hair while she was breastfeeding.
Cassie Hanlin said she was made to feel "embarrassed and humiliated" at the Eltham hair salon, which she was visiting for the first time, and stormed out.

This is ridiculous. I dont blame the hairdresser not wanting to cut her hair while she was feeding. What if she had dropped the scissors

I read that yesterday too.
Her hairdresser decided not to continue cutting her hair while the mother breastfeed. When the mother had finished it was time her hairdresser started the haircut on another booked in client. A junior hairdresser finished the mothers hair.
The hairdressing salon didn't do anything wrong. Hairdressers work in time slots...if one customer holds them up, then they are late for the rest of their customers for the rest of the day.
I don't think it is appropriate to take babies to the hairdressers (breast fed or not) or small children who are not there to get their hair cut to the hairdressers.

I saw this on sunrise, either it happened months ago or new baby has a new meaning, the baby is at least 8 months old by the look of her. It's not just sissors that a hairdresser could drop, small pieces of hair would be falling on bubba's face and could cause a bad infection in her eyes!
i believe women should have the right to feed anywhere anytime EXCEPT if it places the bubba in danger in any way.

ridiculous....why couldn't the mum have organised her appt. for when the bub DIDN'T need feeding?? sounds like a put up job to me.

I didn't see it but from what others have said, I think she is an idiot, why would you want the bub to be having scissors, water, hair etc all over it? Get a babysitter, use a pram, ........ take someone with you?

poor communication probably didn't help .
according to the article the original hairdresser just walked off 'without a word when she started feeding the baby under the cape .It was according to the article only when the other hairdresser came and told the client said that she would take over that the original hairdresser apparently came back and informed her client that she couldn't cut her hair while she (the client) was breastfeeding .
further it it says it was a case of personal choice ...no mention of it being a safety issue ?

safety concerns make sense to me ..they don't seem to be mentioned though ?

The story says new Mum, not new baby. The age of the baby is given as 5 months.
The hairdresser didn't refuse to cut the Mum's hair as usual the media have chosen to beat that up in the headline.

do you think it was a safety issue Iza?
