I hope the ban comes into effect in Australia sometime soon just like it has in several countries.
Write to politicians and alert people on social media about this. Spread the message.
If these countries can do it so can WE!

So WHY are Muslims the only ones that are singled out in this ridiculous debate?
I would really like to hear an answer from UFO or Julia or nero or anyone else who has gone ON and ON about how horrific and barbaric halal slaughter is. And where is the equivelent rage for those other religions or for any other injustices that animals in this country are subjected to?
not sure why you're asking me that.
i have always referred to this as a ritual slaughter
or unstunned slaughter and that i strongly oppose it.
i don't recall singling out particular religion so if you could
point it out to me please.
as far as treatment of animals, i have voiced my
opinion on a number of occasions. quite strongly.
the latest would be about domestic animals i believe.

The only time an animal is not stunned is for religious festivals. Muslims don't have a religious festival that requires this. Jewish people do.
that claim is incorrect. there are number of
abattoirs currently in three states that are allowed,
by law, to ritually slaughter animals because there
is demand for BOTH kosher and halal meat.
the guidelines do not make a reference to religious
festivals but clearly state the exemption applies to
both Kosher and Halal.
As I keep saying there is NO special ritual or festival or whatever in Muslim culture that require an animals to be slaughtered live. Stunning animals first is perfectly acceptable for Muslims.
It is not acceptable for many Jews.
Even the RSPCA states that the vast majority of non stunned salighters are NOT for halal purposes and the majority is for Kosher purposes.
Direct your outrage to Kosher slaughter instead of focusing on what is almost non existant and certainly not necessary live salughter of animals for halal consumption.

@punch*drunk wrote:Bit disconcerting to read that only a small part of the animal is usable for Kosher and the rest is sent off to supermarkets with no labelling, so we could very well be purchasing sheep that wasnt stunned prior to being killed 😞
i know. hopefully, soon, this won't be legal.

i will direct my outrage at ALL religious slaughter
including Halal. thank you.

yes, i understand that.
Australian law dictates that all animals must be stunned so that they are insensible to pain prior to slaughter. However, there are exemptions given to a number of abattoirs to meet a small demand in Australia for religious slaughter (all kosher and some halal products).

Oh and the abbotoir that showed the rogue butcher was illegal and closed down immediately when the proigram aired.
i'd like some more information about that please.
(Saturday AM's Jason Om visited one domestic abattoir in South Australia where killing without stunning has been going on legally for years.)

It is my recollection that he had a deregistered business. Then there was a backlash in the media thanks to the program. And so he closed.
I have looked but I can't find that adendum now sorry. I thought it was on the ABC website at the time in relation to the story.

I just recall after the programe went to air, there was an issue with their company status. And then there was a media backlash. I thought they closed down but I can't find any reference to this.
I called them rogue before and I apologiose as I don't really remember anything other than the above. And perhaps their business sorted itself out after the program. I hope so.
