Halal and Kosher slaughter has been banned in several countries

I hope the ban comes into effect in Australia sometime soon just like it has in several countries.

Write to politicians and alert people on social media about this. Spread the message.

If these countries can do it so can WE!

not some rogue butcher and he does not break

the law because there are  abattoirs that are exempt

from unstunned slaughter. he is one of nine in south australia.

And if you had done your homework then you might recall that the ABC report was almost exclusely focused on Kosher meat slaughter rather than Halal meat slaughter.

The fall out from that report was that the ABC issued an adendum stating that the Islamic Council said there was no religious ritual that Muslims needed to comply with that said the animals could not be stunned. It was in fact the opposite and the response was that the animals needed to be treated with care because the only consideration for halal slaughter is that the animals are calm and not stressed in the lead up and during slaughter. The adendum also confirmed that the majority of ritual slaughter exemptions  in Austral;ia was for the Kosher market.

Funny how no-one is up in arms about how "barbaric" the Jewish religion is...

And everyone also seems to forget that many religions have live animal slaughter for ritualistic reasons.

So WHY are Muslims the only ones that are singled out in this ridiculous debate?

I would really like to hear an answer from UFO or Julia or nero or anyone else who has gone ON and ON about how horrific and barbaric halal slaughter is. And where is the equivelent rage for those other religions or for any other injustices that animals in this country are subjected to?

I'm sure I can see the word Kosher in the thread title. The responses seem to be singling out halal and muslims, but the thread and article is about both.

You are right but given the history of threads about this issue (and from the OP) this issue is not about anything other than halal.

The only time an animal is not stunned is for religious festivals. Muslims don't have a religious festival that requires this. Jewish people do.

that claim is incorrect.  there are number of

abattoirs currently in three states that are allowed,

by law, to ritually slaughter animals because there

is demand for BOTH kosher and halal meat.

the guidelines do not make a reference to religious

festivals but clearly state the exemption applies to

both Kosher and Halal.

this one does have Kosher in the title, but most of the threads have only been anti Halal for some reason

Bit disconcerting to read that only a small part of the animal is usable for Kosher and the rest is sent off to supermarkets with no labelling, so we could very well be purchasing sheep that wasnt stunned prior to being killed 😞
