Happy Australia Day!

All very low-key this year, and who knows if it will be celebrated at all in the years ahead, the way efforts are being ramped up to bring it down.

Still, it's a typical blazing hot blue sky like nowhere else in the world, the crickets are chirping and someone even had their  mowers going this morning.

The radio is playing traditionally Aussie songs, like "True Blue" by John Williamson, and "I still call Australia Home" , by Peter Allan. "I Come From a Land Down Under", by Men at Work.

My favourite has always been "I am Australian", by the Seekers.

Re: Happy Australia Day!

Cancel culture originated from Black Twitter as users discovered some unacceptable thoughts and behaviors from celebrities.

These users sought to hurt these celebrities where it hurts the most, their images and their pockets. When something or someone is cancelled, the general idea is that the individual or topic will no longer receive support.

Black Twitter used this idea to strip celebrities away from their statuses as a consequence of what they said or did. It is targeted to shame that individual or topic and make them an example for society to understand that that ideology and behavior is not a popular one.

With this, more people began to hop on the bandwagon of cancelling mainly celebrities and people with large social influences rather than expanding their scope of who should also be stripped away of their influences.

Many have argued that cancel culture is not effective because it doesn’t last long and it’s not taken seriously.

After some time, the topic is forgotten and things resume to normal. Former President Barack Obama chimed in on social media and cancel culture in 2019 stating “that’s not activism.” The social aspect of cancel culture is taking a different turn and is being portrayed in the light of attacking and criticizing others. It’s more of a “you’re wrong and the world needs to know it” situation and that’s not the ideology needed when trying to correct something.

Re: Happy Australia Day!

So how does all that relate to indigenous Australians  saying that 26th January is not an appropriate day to celebrate being Australian.

I also asked what banners the Culture Cancel activists you reckoned had hijacked the Australia Day protests were carrying.

Re: Happy Australia Day!

It's a popular term with the likes of Bolt, Murray, Dean, Hannity and Carlson. Maybe we should use a term when referring to them and their boss. How about 'cancer culture' ?

What's 'cancel culture'? Another right wing pejorative like 'woke'? This is the sort of thing that's creeping into our culture. Perhaps we can blame this on the left too.

I think both parties need a left and a right, and an uppercut too.

Then I don't know what you're on about, She-el.

I don't understand how neo-Nazis entered the discussion.

Cancel culture is a social media media movement as you can gather from the link I sent you. I don't know that they carry banners, as such.
