i do that for everything. He does try and say the word, but it sounds nothing like the word.
Even a simple word like "Ta", he says "Tia"

@izabsmiling wrote:DDB, has he had regular assessments at the maternal child health clinic ? There is one due at 18 months isn't there ? How did they go ? The Maternal Child Health Nurses are very good at letting you know if there may be a concern .
Glad to know that you are having it checked .Just doing that may reassure you

May need a little help with some speech therapy... the place you are taking him to will discuss that if necessary anyway.

my neighbours 3rd grunted until he was 3.5.... now he's 17 and a normal young man. our master 3 was a late talker....lots of ear issues and dispite us thi king he could hear om he couldn't hear certain pitches. he ok now.
get his hearing chevked so that canbe ruled out. pretty sure you can buy books that respond to a childs speech encouraging them to co.municate

on your phone? lol
DDB, some children choose not to speak, get a check with a speech therapist and stop worrying. My eldest daughter was a selctive speaker till she went to school, only spoke to me, her dad and siblings.

All kids are different, some talk early some later, my grandson talked early, my 3yr old granddaughter talks, but doesnt say alot. My DD took her last week to see a speech therapist and she told my daughter, not to worry so much about her, that alot of kids dont start to speak alot of words until they are 4yrs. old.
Isla knows alot of words & according to the speech therapist she will talk properly by the time she goes to school and it is normal for kids to say sentences that one can only understand a few words of at the age of 3yrs.
Isla has been checked by an audiologist and her hearing is fine.
DDB, get your childs ears checked out, and as others have said, could be that the older kids talk for him, I have heard alot of that happening.
Get your maternal health sister to send him to specialists/drs. if you are really worried.

ddb elly said to tell you one of her grandchildren (I've lost count of how many she has now) is 3 1/2 and only says a few words, they've had him checked out and everything and he's fine, just doesn't talk yet

My son was talking in sentences at 2.5, you are doing the right thing having him checked out, he's probably just not ready to bore you to tears asking question after question after question, and then ask WHY?
