how can that be TOTALLY DISSIMILAR in nature?

well, I like to think I am a Christian ie a follower of Christ's teachings whereas Catholics follow the stuff their Priests and Catechism tell them. My sister-in-law is a catholic.

No, Catholic's don't believe Jesus is the Son of God, they believe that Jesus IS God - some sort of 3-part God.

Catholics believe in TRINITY - that when Jesus rose from the dead, he went back to heaven and became part of that 3-part God again- whereas I believe what the Bible says - ie that Jesus went back to heaven to sit at the right hand of God (HIS God and MY God). I believe what the Bible says - that Jesus was GIVEN the right to judge earth - GIVEN ie he didn't have it previously - as part of a God-head or God himself, how would he be GIVEN the right? He would already have it.

Catholics believe in HELLFIRE - a place where God puts everyone (some get a reprieve) but the rest BURN FOR ALL ETERNITY - that is a LIE and not part of Jesus' teaching at all.

Catholics believe in all sorts of TRADITIONS OF MEN - rather that Jesus' teachings. Have you ever been to a Catholic church and seen all the stuff they get up yo?

Catholics  CHANT PRAYERS - Jesus warned the pharasees not to chant prayers.

Catholics pray to Mary as the Mother of God, and they bow before statues of her - which is an absolute no-no.

Shall I go on? No? I would say TOTALLY DISSIMILAR.

Now, you better read this quickly - it will be deleted just like many of my other posts - why? Some don't like to be told they have been misled by their priests and their infallible Pope.

by the way, you can substitute most protestant churches in most of the references to Catholic above, except I don't think they pray to Mary.

are you saying UFO is not a Christian? Smiley Surprised

i think it is misleading to say that

catholics dont believe jesus was the

son of god.

isnt this a catholic prayer?

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
Maker of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God ........

regardless - i still think it is absurd that

one christian mocks the beliefs of another

christian but maybe that's just me Smiley Frustrated

exactly! They say that in their prayers (Son of God) and then in the next lines say that Jesus IS God, and that The Holy Spirit IS God - Trinity. That's what makes it so ridiculous!  This mysterious 3-part God.

No comment on the making of idols and bowing down to them?  A direct commandment that ufo has had in all his posts.

I want to make it clear that I by no means blame the members of the Roman Catholic Church - they are just poor people who have been mislead for so long. One day they will realise en-masse - but it will probably be too late.

The Big Endians and the Little Endians. (From gullivers Travels)

In Lilliput eggs were originally broken at the big end but then one particular Emperor decreed that eggs should be broken at the little end. This later led to uproar and six rebellions between the big endians and the little endians, and one Emperor was actually killed over it. The neighbouring island of Blefescu still adhere to Big-endianism and insist on breaking their eggs at the big end, while Lilliput are Little- endians. They are presently at war over the matter.

In the context of Swift's England, The big Endians clearly represent the Cathoilics (the original religion) and the Little Endians the Protestants.

The Catholics are NOT the original religion. The Roman Catholic Church is an abortion of Christ's teachings (the Original Christian Church) - tailor made by the Pagan Roman Emperor Constantine (and later additions) to incorporate some of the Christian beliefs and more of the Pagan beliefs. The early Protestants made some attempt to put things right, but unfortunately they didn't go far enough and took most of those Pagan beliefs with them. In their favour, they did remove the spurious books from the Bible.

With the recent efforts to translate the Bible scholars have made more effort to accuracy, and so truths become clearer. The problem is, that the Roman Church scholars, who when all is said and done, have libraries full of old scrolls,  are unable to change Roman Church teachings even though they KNOW they are wrong, because it would make a bit of a mockery of the earlier Popes' supposed infallibility.

Another point I would like to share - the Fall of the Roman Empire - while ever the Roman Church exists the Roman Empire has not fallen - the Roman Church still is exerting tremendous influence in the governments of the world as it has throughout history of the last 2,000 odd years.

You missed one significant part of my post, Rabbit. I said 'In the context of Swift's England, the Catholic religion was the original one - and it was. whatever beliefs and teachings the very the Early Church may have espoused, the form of Christianity first  introduced into England was the one  brought by missionaries from Rome.

in that context, you are correct - The Roman Church.

Do you have any thoughts on my comment re the Fall of the Roman Empire?
