Australia is lagging behind Cannabis legislation

Although industrial hemp is legally grown under licence in all states, we remain the only nation that prohibits the consumption of hemp seed for humans.    Hemp seed oil is an extremely healthy food oil, as well as skin oil.

Hemp seed whole, hulled or crushed for oil are used in food products such as muesli bars, cakes, breads, biscuits, butter paste, non-dairy milk, tofu and cheese, ice cream, the essential and cold pressed oils are used in cosmetics (such as shampoo, soaps and moisturisers), as well as having therapeutic qualities similar to evening primrose oil, cod liver oil, flaxseed oil and soybean supplements.

The omega-6:omega-3 ratio of hemp seed is considered optimal for human nutrition. Because of hemp’s high seed yield, and the seeds high oil content, it has been used throughout the millennia in paints, varnishes, and as a lighting fuel.

Pending decision on hemp seed food in Australia: Ministers have sought a review on the proposed standard for low THC hemp as a food. Ministers have agreed to seek advice from the Standing Council on Police and Emergency Services.

HEMP Party Submission: The HEMP Party submission to the NSW Inquiry into the use of Cannabis for medical purposes is available on the State Government website.

An objective look across society reveals hypocrisy in almost every direction.

hoody-oppressed

“Cannabis causes psychosis” is one of the most popular catch phrases of the prohibitionists.

Well so what? I don’t agree with the statement but that doesn’t matter.

The implication that cannabis should be prohibited because of the danger of psychosis just doesn’t make sense.

As a society we feed our kids Ritalin in greater numbers every year. One side effect of Ritalin is psychosis, yet Ritalin prescription rates have skyrocketed.

Surely the doctors making the prescriptions are aware of the side effects. Clearly psychosis is not something we as a society are too worried about.

So why is the psychosis argument so popular among those opposed to cannabis legalisation?

Simple, it makes people feel justified in their prejudice.

The word ‘prejudice’ is most often used to refer to preconceived, usually unfavorable, judgments toward people or a person because of personal characteristics.

Society is prejudiced against cannabis users. Prejudice leads to discrimination.

Discrimination is the prejudicial and/or distinguishing treatment of an individual based on their actual or perceived membership in a certain group or category, “in a way that is worse than the way people are usually treated.”

It involves how the group is perceived, influencing the individual’s actual behavior towards the group or the group leader, restricting members of one group from opportunities or privileges that are available to another group, leading to the exclusion of the individual or entities based on illogical or irrational decision making

HEMP Party in Sydney this weekend measuring the zinc in the soil

The Australian HEMP Party’s Campaign manager Jim Moylan is in Sydney this weekend doing a couple more of his notorious Police wrangling workshops where he teaches pot smokers how to minimise trouble with the law.

HEMP Party AustraliaPresident Michael Balderstone says he’s very grateful Jim has the time, enthusiasm and energy to grow the HEMP Party into a credible political organisation. The Party has many new members and branches in all States now, bar WA, which is expected to happen next week when Jim flies west.

HEMP is confident it will run Senate Candidates in every State come election time.

Michael say this weeks suggestion from the director of the Centre for Alcohol Policy Research that marijuana should be legalised because the social harm associated with it was significantly less than from drinking, stirred up the same old reefer madness born in John Howard’s reign.

“His Cannabis psychosis shadow is still following us and a lot of people, like Miranda Devine, and the Police, seem to believe it.”

If pot drives you crazy there would be an epidemic in America since Obama got elected!

In fact psychosis is not a big issue there, or anywhere else around the globe.

What about India and Nepal for example, where cannabis is part of the culture?

Cannabis was actually recommended as a treatment for mental health troubles! Maybe it’s the lack of zinc in the Aussie soil!”

“Giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe Howard’s fear mongering nonsense may have originated from hospital records where all admittances are blood tested and of course anyone who has smoked pot in the last month, or even two, trumps the statistics.

Most “mad druggies” are poly drug abusers but every other drug but fat soluble Cannabis passes through the body quickly, which is often not understood nor taken into account. ”

“Anyway, if statistics are God, they actually show Cannabis use has soared in the last fifty years while mental health problem figures have not increased at all.”

“I’m not saying Cannabis is for everyone, but I am saying smoking this imagination juice in a state of fear can be a recipe for trouble.

It’s a criminal act, a fearful adrenalin pumped arena.

Add to that the massive industry prohibition has created of no quality control regulations or research on new

Cannabis strains that are grown indoors in chemical baths by organised crime, then mulled up with tobacco,

another almost unique Aussie habit.

There’s good reasons why the old indigenous cultures created rituals and ceremony’s to introduce their “sacred plants” to the young adults.’

Pity we didn’t learn from their thousands of years of experience before trying to wipe them out.”

If you had seen the shattered lives of bright young people, once full of potential, maybe you wouldn't be so blasé about the effects marijuana can have. Its a game of Russian roulette. Sure, not everyone who uses it will be damaged but we are all affected, the individual, the families and the community.

Re: Help end marijuana prohibition

http://australianhempparty.com/general/endocannabinoids

Marijuana has been used medicinally for thousands of years, having been documented in the world’s first pharmacopeia, written around 2700 BC in China, as well as on clay tablets from the ancient Assyrians 1.

Historically, cannabis preparations have been used to treat a wide variety of illnesses, including: pain, seizures, spasticity, and cholera.

Today thousands of peer-reviewed articles, from researchers around the world, explain the underlying science responsible for the many biological activities of the plant.

Not surprisingly, plant derived cannabinoids uniquely mimic the recently discovered endocannabinoid system (marijuana from within). Endocannabinoids are an exploding topic of research. As a result, this chapter will examine only bits of the huge database of new scientific knowledge, specifically those that exemplify the endocannabinoid connection with underlying physical principles of the physics of life.

All body systems, and the components from which they are made, are functionally regulated in a manner analogous to how a thermostat maintains temperature in a building, they must be turned on and off appropriately to maintain dynamic stability, i.e. balanced flow, heat gain and heat loss.

Dynamic balance is a fundamental property of living systems. In contrast, a penny lying on a table or balanced on its side is stable in the absence of any flowing quantity such as energy. In biological systems, enzymes made from proteins are ultimately responsible for the synthesis of ligands.

These are chemical compounds that bind to receptors, also proteins, serve as switches for initiating biochemical responses to biochemical signals that often reflect the status of a cell with respect to its environment. Biochemical signals must also be turned off, therefore, other appropriately controlled enzymes must be available, which can break down the original initiating signals, or turn off the response to them.

This biochemical-balancing act is known as homeostasis. It occurs at all levels of life: within cells and between cells, within organs and between organs, on up the scale to include individuals with their environment, and their societies.

What is amazing, and not commonly known, is that dynamic steady states naturally result from flowing energy and matter, they self-organize. In other words, the thermostat makes sets itself (mathematically, there is an attractor)

Marijuana

F12.5 cannabinoid: Some studies indicate that cannabis, especially certain strains containing large proportions of THC and low proportions of CBD,[9] may lower the threshold for psychosis, and thus help to trigger full-blown psychosis in some people.[10] Early studies have been criticized for failing to consider other drugs (such as LSD) that the participants may have used before or during the study, as well as other factors such as pre-existing ("comorbid") mental illness. However, more recent studies with better controls have still found an increase in risk for psychosis in cannabis users, albeit a more modest one.[11] It is still not clear whether this is a causal link, and it is possible that cannabis use only increases the chance of psychosis in people already predisposed to it; or that people with developing psychosis use cannabis to provide temporary relief of their mental discomfort.

Cannabis use has increased dramatically over past few decades but declined in the last decade, whereas the rate of psychosis has not increased. This suggests that a direct causal link is unlikely for all users

Big pharmas legal schitzoids

F13.5 sedatives/hypnotics (barbiturates;[13][14] benzodiazepines[15][16][17]😞 It is also important to this topic to understand the paradoxical effects of some sedative drugs.[18] Serious complications can occur in conjunction with the use of sedatives creating the opposite effect as to that intended. Malcolm Lader at the Institute of Psychiatry in London estimates the incidence of these adverse reactions at about 5%, even in short-term use of the drugs.[19] The paradoxical reactions may consist of depression, with or without suicidal tendencies, phobias, aggressiveness, violent behavior and symptoms sometimes misdiagnosed as psychosis.[20][21] However, psychosis is more commonly related to the benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome.[22]

Dravet Syndrome

http://au.news.yahoo.com/today-tonight/lifestyle/family/article/-/16414759/marijuana-for-children/

Sheree O'Connell's daughter, Tara has Dravet Syndrome, a severe type of epilepsy that affects one in 20,000 people.

Conventional medicine is 'slowly killing' Tara but O'Connell believes 'a modern day medicine man' can help.

Tony Bower produces his medical cannabis tincture for hundreds of patients including children.

From the outside, Bower's minibus could be mistaken for one driven by thousands of backpackers who make their way to Nimbin in Northern New South Wales to buy drugs.

"I never stopped what I done, you know when the police took my plants, that did not stop me," Bower said.

Tara has violent and debilitating seizures.

"Tara has seizures pretty much every half hour, small seizures and five to ten times a day, she is having seizures that render her unconscious," O'Connell said.

Her condition is being treated with conventional medication but her mother believes "it's keeping her alive but is also slowly killing her," so they're taking a drastic step.

More stories from reporter Damien Hansen

O'Connell has decided to try Tara on medicinal marijuana.

"People need to realise, we don't go into this lightly, it's been a big decision and we understand people are probably going to say 'you're crazy," O'Connell said.

The cannabis arrived by mail.

"Nothing has worked now, we are going outside the mainstream, but for Tara's life and quality of life, we are willing to give anything a go," said O'Connell.

According to Bower, "if someone can fix them and I can get it, I'll get it and fix them."

Bower runs Mullaways Medical Cannabis, the first medical cannabis company established and registered in Australia for the purpose of research development and production of cannabinoid medicines.

During the extraction process, Bower removes 95 per cent of main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant called THC - you don't get high from it but users say it offers relief from pain and discomfort.

"The drug companies would jump on it if they could get hold of it, and then they would lock it up for everybody," Bower said.

Mullaways Medical Cannabis

AUSTRALIA'S first medical cannabis dispensary is operating at Nimbin.

For months Tony Bower, of Kempsey, has been dispensing free 25-millilitre vials of his therapeutic cannabis tincture to anyone who can produce a medical certificate confirming a condition known to be treatable with cannabis or cannabis extracts.

His chronically sick patrons, who include those with AIDS, cancer and multiple sclerosis, number in their hundreds. Mr Bower is an Aborigine and said it was against his culture to refuse to help them.

They do not get you "stoned", but have noted anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

Mr Bower has registered his company, Mullaway's Medical Cannabis, and has applied for a drug manufacturer's licence from the TGA.

Tony is seeking expressions of interest for participation in clinical trials of Mullaways Medical Cannabis tinctures. The conditions line is for a list of ailments.

Please print out, fill in and mail to the address on the form if you are interested and feel participation would be appropriate.
