Australia is lagging behind Cannabis legislation

Although industrial hemp is legally grown under licence in all states, we remain the only nation that prohibits the consumption of hemp seed for humans.    Hemp seed oil is an extremely healthy food oil, as well as skin oil.

Hemp seed whole, hulled or crushed for oil are used in food products such as muesli bars, cakes, breads, biscuits, butter paste, non-dairy milk, tofu and cheese, ice cream, the essential and cold pressed oils are used in cosmetics (such as shampoo, soaps and moisturisers), as well as having therapeutic qualities similar to evening primrose oil, cod liver oil, flaxseed oil and soybean supplements.

The omega-6:omega-3 ratio of hemp seed is considered optimal for human nutrition. Because of hemp’s high seed yield, and the seeds high oil content, it has been used throughout the millennia in paints, varnishes, and as a lighting fuel.

Pending decision on hemp seed food in Australia: Ministers have sought a review on the proposed standard for low THC hemp as a food. Ministers have agreed to seek advice from the Standing Council on Police and Emergency Services.

HEMP Party Submission: The HEMP Party submission to the NSW Inquiry into the use of Cannabis for medical purposes is available on the State Government website.

Re: Help end marijuana prohibition

that should bugger those that quote incorrect statistics right up... almost like a big pharma conspiracy

http://www.smh.com.au/national/health/cannabis-disorders-less-likely-to-be-diagnosed-20130526-2n56w....

More than 185,000 Australians will no longer be diagnosed with cannabis use disorders under changes to the controversial diagnostic manual used by psychiatrists, released this month.

Sydney researchers looked at the revised diagnostic criteria  in the latest version of the manual, known as DSM-5,  to see if it would impact prevalence.

In DSM-5, cannabis abuse and dependence symptoms were combined into one disorder and included new criterion for withdrawal and craving.

When these factors were considered, University of NSW researchers found thousands currently categorised as having a cannabis disorder fell below the diagnostic threshold.

An author of the study,  Tim Slade, said he was surprised by the finding because a similar study had found a dramatic increase in alcohol use disorders under DSM-5.

''Essentially, the same criteria are being used for both cannabis and alcohol,'' said Associate Professor Slade, of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at the university.

''It's concerning for a classification system when you apply the same criteria to one drug and diagnosis goes up but, for another, it goes down.''

I haven't read all of this, because, well because I have the attention span of a gnat and couldn't be bothered BUT I do want to say

about two weeks ago I visited an industrial hemp farm and munched on some hemp seeds. They were delicious, and have all sorts of health benefits.

Today we had 8 tonne of hemp fibre that we were experimenting with. Have a look for Carroll Cotton on facebook if you're interested.

Also checkout ecofibre

If the  supplier of the hemp seeds were caught by the police then they would be charged with supply. If that supplier had used

hemp oil to bake a fruit cake and the Fruit cake weighed 500 grams then the maximum penalty for supply of one piece of cake in NSW would be dealt with under s 25(2A) — to 4200 pu or 25 yrs gaol, or both.

If Pimpy would have been drug tested  after munching on the seeds then although the seeds are not intoxicating they would have triggered a positive on the swab test and pimpy's licence would have been suspended for 24 hours and would have needed to attend court for the mandatory disqualification...... all because of some non intoxicating hemp seed.

The main problem the police have is that food made from hemp would trigger (wrongly) the roadside swab tests to a postive

reading.

check your state laws' penalties here

If you import Hershey bars from the United States then you are an illicit drug importer as per the law as it stands.

( anecdotally Hershey Bars almost universally trigger the initial roadside cannabis swab test as positve)

An ultra high speed projectile of Pb is even worse than alcohol. 🙂

Re: Help end marijuana prohibition

I would hate to see it legalised. At least if it's illegal there's a lid on it, even if it is fairly easy to get. Make it legal and everyone will be into it  anywhere, anytime. Along with the alcohol problem, it'd be chaos.
