Here's the crazy yank again, with a question about fruits!!!! GUANDONGS!!

There's a neat article in the national geographic about cassowarys!  Strange birds, those.  Live in the northern part of Australia and parts of New Guinea.  There's a picture in there of them eating  a weird blue fruit called a Guandong.

Please, what is it?  What does it taste like?  Do you folks eat them?  I really need something different - sick and tired of pinapples.  Kiwi fruit are ok.  Coming up next - barbecued cassuary....  (just kidding!)

Hi, everybody!  That wombat in the picture needs braces.  (I think it was in this thread).  Speaking of Quandongs - I spelled it wrong.  

MEANWHILE in the heart of dinosaur country, eastern Utah, or some place, we stopped at a rock shop, and I actually bought a rock called a Coprolite, which is fosselized dinosaur (or sloth, or something) doodoo.  Now tell me, how classy is THAT!  Yup, that's right, I don't have Jurrasic Park - I've got Jurrasic Poop.  But, trust me, you wire a little pendant loop to it, and give it to your girlfriend as a gift, and then you pray (ONE) that she never EVER finds out what it is, and (TWO) that she doesn't go out and buy a chainsaw...  Ah, I love sophisticated romance - whatever it is...

Apparently you can eat the seeds from the Kurranda Quandongs - the ones that grow in the rainforrests

Never seen those,

Just the regular ones, they really are acidic, and you really need to stew them, then they go like a peach texture, or turn them into jams and chutneys etc.

I have a recipe for stewed quandongs if you want it? From there you can turn it into chutneys etc

but you basically put the pitted fruit into sugar water with lemon juice, bring it to the boil for 5 min (no more - fruit discolours and loses its texture), then stand overnight
