There's a neat article in the national geographic about cassowarys! Strange birds, those. Live in the northern part of Australia and parts of New Guinea. There's a picture in there of them eating a weird blue fruit called a Guandong.
Please, what is it? What does it taste like? Do you folks eat them? I really need something different - sick and tired of pinapples. Kiwi fruit are ok. Coming up next - barbecued cassuary.... (just kidding!)

I used to volunteer at a wildlife rescue centre and would bottle feed baby wombats. One of them Chomp (named because he would get chomped on by other wombats) was adorable very gentle. Jazz was a mean sod, as soon as you would enter the enclosure he would try to knock you over or take a chunk out of your leg.

I agree Richo.
I also had to feed some 'pinkys' wombats without fur. They were cute, you'd get a dirty look from them if you woke them up. We would also have to rub vegetable or olive oil on them to stop thier skin drying out.

Hi *crikey*mate* - I never thought of it that way!!!!!! I once tried to join a chemistry class, but when I got there, the professor was standing there blocking the door. He was holding two beakers of weird bubbling stuff. Had a horrified look on his face - I think my reputation got ahead of me.
Hi sineaterdoodah!!!!!! Two years ago, we moved from Reno to Eugene, which is up on the west coast - lots of green trees and bushes out here. My wife unpacked our toaster, and discovered our cat (he's the orange guy you see in the picture) had, how should I put this delecately - hacked up a fur ball into one of the toaster slots before we left. Fortunately, we had not turned it on yet. We got a new toaster! For a while, I contemplated cleaning it out, but noooooooo.
MORAL - ALWAYS check your toaster before you use it!
So where do I get a jar of quandong jam?

Reno => Chemistry => My kids made exploding gummy bears in Chemistry class
=> Quondong Jam => You might have to make it yourself get your wife to make some, I'm not sure that bush tucker is such a big thing here to have anyone producing it commercially.
Can find a recipe in a book called Windfalls by Sue Ruchel, or I can tell you how to stew them and then go to a chutney.
but whatever you do
