There's a neat article in the national geographic about cassowarys! Strange birds, those. Live in the northern part of Australia and parts of New Guinea. There's a picture in there of them eating a weird blue fruit called a Guandong.
Please, what is it? What does it taste like? Do you folks eat them? I really need something different - sick and tired of pinapples. Kiwi fruit are ok. Coming up next - barbecued cassuary.... (just kidding!)

Hi DEB! That's lovely! Ah, come to think of it, what's a rosella???
AND, while we're at it, have any of you ever seen a WOMBAT? Do they tear up your yards? Are they cute, cuddley, or just plain dangerous?
By the way, I am a BIG fan of Footrot Flats, the New Zealand comic strip. Well, I'd have to be! Those are great people! In fact, they are much nicer than anybody in our US Congress (a non-political comment, that).

and could somebody explain what a damper is,please? here, there thingabobs in the chimney,i think, made of metal, and generally not eaten.
now bob,you MUST learn to be pitifully ignorant,as well as goofy. curtis walks into the grocery with a list in hand, stands in produce looking blank until a kind person(usually a cute little girl) takes pity on him and asks what he's looking for. he'll say"umm.my wife says on the list she wants bibb lettuce? i don't see any with bibs?"
then they think he's just so cute, and walk him through the whole store picking the stuff on the list for him, lol! our friend regina works there and thinks it's hilarious! but then, she got roped in by his act when she worked at the DG by our house,MANY times! 😄

Damper is a simple plain bread you can make out in the middle of nowhere, with flour and water, and bake it over a fire.
A good pinch of salt in it too if you had it.
so, traditional damper is flour, water, bit of salt, form a round, bake it on a stick over the fire, or in the ashe cook, eat, done.

Damper is short for damper bread, a concoction of flour, water, and baking soda for leavening, mixed together, then stuck in the hot ashes of a campfire..........well-off swaggies might have a small oven in their tucker box.
Go to any well-stocked American supermarket, and you'll likely find "Australian Toaster Biscuits"............these are NOTHING like damper........but, slather enough Vegemite onto them, and once the blowies start buzzing around you'll think your're just this side of the black stump.

If you would like to try it. This is a no soda one, as self-raising flour. modern recipes have added butter along the way.

Yes, seen wombats. They are cute and cuddly, if you don't mind a large, heavy, furry, which end is which creature trying to bite you.
they sleep a lot...friend of mine was attacked by a wombat. He woke it up.
A very large one, with big teeth.
Cute, huh?
wake them up...
