Re: Hi, my names LEYROY

from the GAP website,

Can be greyhounds be let off lead in public?

No, greyhounds legally cannot be let off lead in public, even in a dog park. You can only have your greyhound off leash on private property.

so even fenced footy grounds would be a no go

maybe i could walk him in the other direction for a few kilometres along the shore line where there is no housing and find a strech of beach and let him off, being sneaky like.

years ago before Foo i would take Ellie that way and let her off lead so she could run around

(ellie was a lab/shepard cross) big and lumbering, not much of a runner.

particularly after 2 knee reconstructions.

Re: Hi, my names LEYROY

Some tennis courts have high fences but the problem is that it's not allowed.

The main problem with greyhounds is that they haven't been brought up with road sense either and with their

speed if they did decide to run you couldn't catch them in a hurry as they can run 500 metres in under 30

seconds,600 metres in 35 and 700 metres in 45 seconds so would be well gone.

Then you look at all the other dogs that are regarded as potentially dangerous and you see them off lease all

the time because the owners "trust" them until something happens and then it's not their fault.Angry head bang.gif

I've been scared of other dogs my entire life but will trust any greyhound as they aren't a vicious dog.good.gif

Re: Hi, my names LEYROY

when you think about it, the law although not intended for it, it does protect the greyhound from danger.

danger of getting a fright and running off in fear.

and they do get frightened easily when first out in the public.

everything is a bit scary, wind blowing the tree branch, a car door slamming, me dropping a spoon in the kitchen.

eventually, it takes a good year, they calm down in their new enviroment. they know their new routine. they recognise where they are all the time.

ya must remember from the day they are born, its all about running fast for 45 seconds, nothing else matters.

once thats done its back on the bus, back to his kennel, until next time.

only meeting a few people, prolly only 1 regularly.

now its the opposite, lots of noise, action, people, weird shaped dogs, cats!

slippery floors, stairs, carpet, ect ect ect.

well not so much noise and action here with me true.
