HOLDEN will close its Australian operations, including Elizabeth in 2017, the company has told its South Australian workforce.
The company has also told the Victorian Government that it will cease operations in 2017

the solution is quite easy really
if holden don't want to do the right thing and continue to make cars in australia, ban the import of ALL holden cars

i think that would work, but it isn't legal under FTA"s .

If we open our eyes and face reality, even if the FTAs were a level playing field, or even non existant, the changes in how things work would have brought it about anyway.
A plant that can churn out 100,000 cars a year max, for a small domestic market, and an even smaller pseudo export market, competing with 60 other makes, each with a number of different models, being pumped out of million car a year megaplants for entire world markets, just doesn't stand a chance.

GREEDY unions, over paid workers, huge union deals and benifits drove this company out just like the unions did to GM and Ford in Detroit. Detroit as a city has now declared bankruptcy and has no auto industry.....
Unions have done and are still doing the same thing here in Australia

The unions are now trying to hold Toyota to ransom over wage deals
THE Australian car manufacturing industry is on the brink of collapse as Toyota warns that the future of its Melbourne operations will be under threat if a cost-cutting deal is rejected by unions and Holden appears certain to close its Adelaide car plant.
Toyota warned yesterday that a no vote on a union workplace agreement would send "a very strong message to our parent company that we are not serious about transforming our business".
"This will put our ability to continue building cars in Australia at serious risk," a spokeswoman said.

This closure has nothing at all to do with the LNP and pouring untold funds into a failed union industry, it has everything to do with greedy unions and Labor and the blame rests at their feet...

Holden closes, five years earlier than Gillard promised
Labor and some media commentators have tried to set up the Abbott Government for blame should Holden fail. But for that to work, Holden would have to announce a pull out after Christmas, and after the Abbott Government had ruled out more handouts.
Instead, Holden has been forced to declare its hand now:
GM Holden confirmed the move this afternoon after Victorian Premier Denis Napthine made the announcement in State Parliament.
Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson said the decision “reflects the perfect storm of negative influences the automotive industry faces in the country, including the sustained strength of the Australian dollar, high cost of production, small domestic market and arguably the most competitive and fragmented auto market in the world...”
That exposes the folly of Labor’s handout mentality:

And the good news is that the future of General Motors is now secure in this country for the next decade.
Holden will be here in Australia producing cars for at least the next 10 years. That’s great news. And it’s as a result of a more than $1 billion co-investment between the Federal Government, the South Australian Government, the Victorian Government and of course Holden, which is investing strongly in the future of manufacturing Holden cars here in Australia.
That guarantee of 10 more years of production has turned into a delivery of just five years. The promise was complete bull, and someone then was lying - GMH, Gillard or both.

Bomb-proof BMWs will replace the Prime Minister's Holden fleet of limousines
WHY? because HOLDEN didnt even bother to tender.....
THE Prime Minister's flagship fleet of high-security Holden limos is expected to be replaced with bomb and gas proof BMWs after Government sources claimed Holden had failed to bid for a lucrative $4 million plus contract to replace the ageing convoy of armoured cars.
And a further armada of 20 German built cars will need to be leased for the G20 Summit in Brisbane next year - at a cost of $2 million - with foreign leaders prevented from using the Holden Caprice as it didn't meet their standards to protect against terrorist attacks.
Government sources last night claimed that Holden had not submitted a bid for a new construction contract to replace the existing eight-year-old fleet of nine armour-plated Caprices - including the PM's own car "C1".
The Daily Telegraph understands that only four bids were entered, including Audi and Mercedes.
