Housewife For A Day

Took the day off yesterday (Friday) to wait for the Tradies to rescreen our windows and security door.

Got up early to shift all the furniture away from obstructing the windows, including my desk and the computer, and generally tidied the place up, as you would do for visitors.

All ready for 10am when they said they'd be here.

Had my day planned, for when they'd be finished around lunchtime. Go up the street and run a few messages, get my hair done etc.

Lunchtime, Tradies still hadn't turned up. I called. They were tied up and couldn't get here til 2pm. Very apologetic.

Ok. Raced up the street and got as much done as I could (not the hair) and was back by 2pm. 2.30 still no Tradies.

3pm they turn up and race through installing the screens. Did a good job but missed out on the bathroom window and will have to come back. Sheesh.

I won't be having a day off for that, it's hard enough getting someone to cover reception for me while I'm away.

All in all though, I had a good day at home. I'm rarely home during the week and it's totally different to being home on the weekends.

The noise of the kiddies playing at lunch at the school just up the road. The coming and going of ppl in the house going about their chores. The whole different lot of ppl on the street of a weekday.

It was nice.

Sometimes it's nice to just  'smell the roses'

Could be a good tonic for you Icy.

And if you're a wife at home,  isn't that a housewife?

I don't understand why the term "housewife" would be offencive, and will go out on a limb and say, that i doubt that anyone will take issue with it. The term "misery guts" on the other hand,, ??????????? lol

The first years after my transplant, I did the housewifing, while the war department worked at her job as an OR tech and went back to college for her BSN.  I washed clothes, took care of not only my kid, but one belonging to a fellow nursing student.......I ironed nursing students' garments at 50¢ an item.......vacuumed, made the beds.........typed her school papers......

I don't have a problem with the word housewife, although it's not one I would use to describe myself.  Someone pointed out to me recently though, it's about the only "job title" you never lose.

Someone working outside the home gets to "retire", but a housewife's job is a job for life Smiley Wink
