Factors Affecting the Performance of NBN Fibre Broadband

When connected on a service with (for example) a 100 Mbps interface speed, you should not expect that everything that you download from the Internet will be received by you at 100 Mbps!

Important external factors affecting the actual speed include the capacity of, load on, and access data rate of: the destination host computer which you are accessing; the global Internet links between Internode and the destination host computer; and the backhaul network connecting your community to Internode.

In addition, local technical factors affecting performance include:

the hardware that you use to terminate your NBN Fibre Broadband connection; for example the capability of your Ethernet router to firewall and address translate at these speeds; the performance of your home network; for example NBN Fibre Broadband line speeds may be beyond the speeds achievable with wireless home networks; and the limitations imposed by the hardware, software and protocol stack operating in your PC.

Hence NBN Fibre Broadband services can be described in terms of 'theoretical network maximum speeds' - noting that your actual speeds may be slower due to a number of factors beyond Internode's control.

Re: How Fast is the NBN

As POD writes, and I agree.

How many people will use NBN 1000/400 or even have the equipment to handle it, or even understand what it means? Perhaps (?) KAJ , with the: "upload of about 8Gb in photos alone." per week"  Per week 8Gb, the mind boggles even at A4 up to 5Mb.

Sounds like more toilet roll communication to me.

i admire the gall, and the LNP tactics. wait until a certain freak is 'away' (with help from the NW cabal) and wheel out the BS, 🙂

I take photos and store them online. What's it matter to you?

300 GB    600 GB    1,000 GB there are not available and are put there as red herrings

Is that accusing Internode of false advertising?

Why would they bother? They have been voted ISP of the year at least 4 times, most recently this year.

Re: How Fast is the NBN

IOf you have a fast internet connection then you can check it for your self by knowing what your link speed is and then testing to an off shopre site  and measure the data transfer speed

This site does just that in real time to servers of your choice worldwide

http://speedtest.net

Ithas been doinbg that for years and you can also see thye average of any country in the world

Around 25 Mbps is the average of the HIGEST attained speed in the whole world

By the way LL I achieve 1Gigabit over copper in my network and for your information Copper has the same latentcy as fibre, both abour 66% of the speed of light.

so copper is not the limitation that you have been led to believe:)

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
