Did Someone Target Mr O'Farrell?

The barrister leading an ICAC inquiry has raised questions about whether  damaging information about Premier Barry O'Farrell's $3000 bottle of wine was  strategically leaked to the media to bring him down.

In the final minutes of a 23-day inquiry into the company linked to the Obeid  family, the man who admitted he gave Mr O'Farrell the Penfolds Grange Hermitage  was asked how the media knew about the gift "before ICAC did".

Former AWH chief executive Nick Di Girolamo was also asked whether he told  former Liberal state energy minister Chris Hartcher about the gift, which was  sent on April 20, 2011.

"Who in the world did you tell that you'd bought Mr O'Farrell the bottle of  Grange?" counsel assisting the commission, Geoffrey Watson, SC, asked.

"Did you tell another politician, a fellow called Hartcher?" Mr Watson said.

"I don't believe so," Mr Di Girolamo replied.

"Are you sure about that?" Mr Watson pressed.

Mr Hartcher quit the cabinet in December last year after ICAC investigators  raided his Central Coast office over a separate inquiry into political  donations, which is due to start hearings on April 28.

Not that I don't think Mr O'Farrell should've known better than to let himself be courted by such as the Obeids but I do think he was way out of his depth there.

The best and most honourable thing he could do was fall on his sword IMO.

I'm sure the NSW Police are having a little cheer over this, just another of the many, many low acts of O'Farrell........ with the help of Nile and the Shooters. Leading up to the election O'Farrell said publicly he supported our police and would stand by them, then betrayed them, it's no surprise that abbott likes and admires him so much.

Police have heckled MPs as the New South Wales Parliament passed legislation to cut benefits for injured officers.

The bill passed the Lower House today after it was approved by the Upper House late on Thursday night with the support of the Shooters and Fishers and Christian Democrats parties.

Laws were passed that strip police of their death and disability protection, cutting support to officers injured on the job and cutting support to families of police officers killed at work. [25 November 2011]

I think this article sums up the problem with liberal party corruption. They routinely show us examples where they blame the whistleblower for catching them.

Fact is, they shouldn't be accepting anything from lobbyists ... nor meeting with them.

We should be thanking whoever brought this issue to the ICAC's attention, not witch hunting them.

His connection with Di Girolamo was another lie.  He first claimed no to know him, then said he'd met him once, then photos started to turn up of the 2 of them together on at least 10 occasions.
