I don't know exactly, but I think that NZ has a policy of repatriating foreign nationals charged with a serious crime only if they have lived in NZ for less than 10 years. I have an idea that only applies to Aussies but am not certain.
I did try to look it up but the interwebz is flooded with the current Adern/Morrison news and I could only find reports about Kiwis deported from Australia, not the other way (if there are any the other way)

National Simon Bridges wants Aus crimes to be sent back, Jacinda says no it would be **bleep** for tat and she is not interested.
I am not sure about the time line for how long a aussie has been in NZ

"You would never know it from the glowing headlines she enjoys around the world, or her calm, confident condemnation of Australiaโs deportation policy to Scott Morrisonโs face yesterday, but New Zealandโs Prime Minister is under serious pressure back home.
Far from being an overwhelming favourite to win re-election on September 19, Ms Ardern is at risk of losing power after a single term in office.
Not bad for the leader of a tiny country with so little global influence.
In recent weeks though, even the most positive coverage of Ms Ardern has started to include a small asterisk.
For example, Ms Ardern appeared on the cover of Time Magazineโs international edition this month. Inside was yet another glowing profile, which praised the โstrength and sanityโ of her leadership.
Then, near the bottom, came this line.
โItโs hard to find anyone who doesnโt admire her authenticity and compassion, but thereโs a sense among her supporters that she may have bitten off more than she can chew, and among her opponents that her government has failed on most of its promises.โ
Back in New Zealand, Ms Ardernโs constituents are bitterly divided."
