How devastating- those poor reindeer :(

thats really horrible.

on another thought though, it would seem a good idea to get as many as possible slaughtered and used a food. if not human maybe zoos or animal welfare groups ect.

be such a waste to leave it to rot.

Venicen is delicious when properly prepared, but considering the storm hit last Friday and they have summer in Norway, it can be dangerous to use the meat for human consumption.

I am sure the Authorities will dispose of the dead animals in a manner that will be of some benefit for some animals or humans. Not only the meat, but also the skins and antlers are of material value.

The poor deer would have been frightened by the severe storm and lightning, but once struck they would have died instanrly without suffering. Such is nature and nobody can stop natural disasters.

I feel more saddened by the earthquake and devastation in Italy. Not only lifes lost, but a whole village lost everything.

The area- Hardangervidda- includes a National Park- home to Europes last wild reindeer herds, between south and north Norway.

No mention in the news re harvesting the reindeer for meat etc- but I wouldnt think so. Most probably they will be burnt, and their remains buried.

As for other natural disasters happening around the planet at the moment, including the earthquake in Italy, I would imagine most people have the capacity to concurrently feel compassion and be devastated by them.

Im not singling out one events importance over another.

Absolutely neither am I.  One could go on ad nauseum  making comparisons, but this thread is about the poor reindeer and I for one am saddened by it and just hope they didn't suffer.  .
