How do other countries view Australians?

What do Americans think about Australians?

Any foreigners care to answer?..

Do we live up to our stereotype?

Re: How do other countries view Australians?

Having lived in the US for many years I think I can answer this.

Except for the Eastern Seaboard and West Coast, most other states think we wear lederhosen and yodel.

Re: How do other countries view Australians?

Having visited the US in the last year or so, they don't bother to think much about Australia at all.

They think it is too far away from them.. as in they wouldn't go there because of that.

They think of kangaroos and koalas. They know a few Aussie expressions... probably from movies.

One person told me previous Australian customers they had were loud and didn't think much of them at all.

They think Austria is Australia... which is what CrystalGem is referring to I suppose.

If you are from overseas and speak English, they think you are from England.

It's not just Americans who have strange ideas about the often unfounded stereotypical Australians and Australia itself. We get many relatives from Scandinavia come with wild expectations and often disappointed lol . But one young relative brought 2 friends one from Switzerland and another from Poland and the reverse happened when our Australians friends (including us) could offer little knowledge about those countries than recount blatant stereotypes lol

All my Italian relatives think Australia is dangerous and we are all wild. They think sharks are lurking in shallow waters, snakes are under every rock and poisonous spiders are a way of life.

My Canadian relatives all love Australia. They see it the same as Canada and canadians but reckon we are more relaxed and carefree.

Whenever I am in the US, they always pick up the Aussie accent and always say the same thing: "I am going to visit Australia one day.".

That's one thing that makes me laugh so much. They really think EVERYTHING in Australia is poisonous or about to kill you lol. I still laugh at my Swedish cousin who asked if the grass was safe to sit on as he thought it might be poisonous.
