I was trying to explain to a friend why AFL footy was so important and exciting to watch that I have to miss a dinner gathering because of it. All I could come up with it just is. She just gave me a stare like I'm out of my mind.
How do you explain to someone who has no concept of why sport can be such big part of someone's life even though it might not directly affect it?

You do realise sport is real right?
Excuse me while I wipe the coffee off my screen.

sorry, I was a bit harsh there. But I agree with Crikey. People get the same feeling either for their religious experience or for a sporting experience and some people take sport more seriously than religion.

Wally Lewis and Alfie Langer never played AFL (professionally, that I know of). Warrick Capper did.
Need I say more?

The best thing about it is it keeps the bogans of the streets for a few hours each week

sport to me is more boring than staring at a blank wall.
think of something that person really likes and then say "sport to me is like "insert that something" to you"
