Hello, potato is carbohydrate.
That's why one should eat them in moderation, unless you're an athlete in training.
As far as empty calories, they have more vitamin C and Iron than bananas.............

It depends, am i eating them by themselves or with meat foods like pot roast or turkey, chicken, beef, ect.

a potato a couple of times a week is far better than bread for you. Bread has sugar and fat and preservatives....which a potato does not.
A potato is full of vitamins and trace elements as ment'd already.
Sure, eat in moderation as potatoes are a source of carbs.....but in order for the body to BURN FAT you must eat carbohydrates as carb foods assist in burning fat......you cannnot effectively burn fat without carbs!! *Doh!
You need carbs and my choice is to eat a potato instead of processed carb foods like bread or white rice or pasta.

Just wondering about the Irish poor. Prior to the potato famine potatoes were the major part of their diet. I never heard that they were fatties.

All the fatties went to NY.
The famine had an effect.
Spent some lovely time in Eire in the early 70s - don't remember an overload of fatties.
