I've had my Westinghouse for 8 years and it's finally carked it - after a costly repair last year.
Just wondering - I'm sure in the last generation fridges used to last a lot longer.
What are others experiences?

One of my rellies has a Kelvinator and it is going strong at 31yrs. also. She has hardly had anything go wrong and she bought it new. They knew how to make fridges last back when it was made.

A 65 Kelvinator? Nearly 50 years? Truly awesome. .
I think so too. Ex work mate's parents bought it new when they built their first house, handed it down to him when he got his first house, then he gave it to me when his mum moved to a nursing home, and he took possession of their "newer" Kelvinator, which is also still going strong.

ours is a kelvinator bout 15years old
The bottom door shelf snapped off, handle snapped off and bottom thingy on the outside that stop stuff going under the fridge snapped off but still works
The seals are starting to go and anything on the bottom shelf at the back freezes so I'd say its dying a slow death, but it still works

Aren't kelvinator and Westinghouse the same company...Australian owned and parts made in SA...

Well bright, I think it should last a certain amount of cartons. ( I bet that's helpful. ๐ )

Yeah really helpful deja. ๐
After what I've read here I'm a bit possed off about my Westinghouse only lasting 8 years. I suppose it goes to show the ones made years ago were just made to last whereas now they're not. A bit like cars really. Plastic bits when they used to be metal?
