A sure-fire clue is in the way he walks by his partner's side.
Men subconsciously slow down when walking with their wife or girlfriend to match her pace, a study has found.
But they barely break their stride when with a woman who is merely a friend - and speed up when accompanying another male.
The US researchers believe that rather than being chivalrous, men are subconsciously protecting their own biological interests. Over-exercising can affect a woman's fertility and so by not requiring his other half to match his pace, a man may be boosting his chances of becoming a father.
Researcher Dr Cara Wall-Scheffler said the theory could also throw up other questions. 'It would definitely be problematic if a romantic partner is walking well ahead of his mate,' she said. 'Also, if a woman thinks a man is "just a friend" but he continually slows down, I would wonder if he was interested in something more.'
Well, I'm gonna checked this out. I just find everyone walks slower than me and I have to slow down for everyone.

My husband is ALWAYS telling me we're not in a race and to slow down.
Maybe you and I are supposed to be together Bob??

My husband always walked beside me on the outside, he did complain that I took little steps to his big ones
When we crossed the road he used to hold me hand and drag me across 🙂

Perhaps it's womens shoes that slow them down......
I do travel faster in my sneakers than when in heals......lol.

Exactly! My husband slows down for me (not for any biological imperitive - we're way too old for all that rot) because I tell him that trying to walk fast on cobbled city footpaths damages my feet, and the $300 stilettos I'm wearing.
This usually takes the wind out of his sails, thereby giving him the breath to go on and on and on about my insane spending habits. I then get to point out that my shoes cost no more than your average Titleist putter, and a truce is called.
We can then proceed to dinner happy in the knowledge that we are true equals.
Cheers,
Marina.

I don't get your logic. I walk faster than both men and women. Which by the study, I'm not in love with either ???
I just checked today, I end up talking and walking backwards.
