I Helped An Elderly Gent Yesterday.

In the Supermarked. I was doing some fruit and veg shopping and noticed him struggling to open the produce bag. I've struggled with them before so I wondered if I should help him or would he feel I was being patronised.

As I walked past him I jokingly said, "you have to spit on it"! I always wet my thumb and index finger to open the bags.

We laughed and he went pretendy "ptui ptui" on the bag.

I went around and got some tomatoes and deliberated whether I should get the lemons from USA or limes from Aus.

When I looked up he was still patiently struggling with the bag.

I felt bad then about the flippant spit comment and said "can I help you"? He gave me the bag and I showed him how I lick my thumb and finger and the bag opened straight away! (It's not always that easy).

Anyway we had shared another laugh about it and went about our shopping.

I had to get the fruit and veg guy to help me with mine once.

Joz - I think charitable things need to be kept quiet as the whole point is to do something nice without asking for anything in return

That elderly gentleman probably fought  for our country.  Well done Icy for your kindness. To all those who thought Icy did the wrong thing helping a senior citizen & posting a nice little story on here, just remember,  everybody gets old & also there's Karma.

I think you are seeing it all wrong, Icy did a good deed and felt good about it and sharded it with the good people here that she considers friends, simple as really and only a debbie downer would see it any other way.

Re: I Helped An Elderly Gent Yesterday.

Well I helped an old couple a few weeks ago because they were flustered and didn't understand the whole self service register and I stood there working it out for them with a screaming three year old at my side. My main forum is facebook where my entire family, friends and colleagues are and I didn't post it. I truly don't understand the reason why one should

A good deed is a good deed - don't do it if you want appraisals after the fact

I just read your comment Hawk - that's good that she felt good about it and wanted to share - but the fact is, if she did good deeds all the time then it would the norm and then she wouldn't feel the need to post it
