I Helped An Elderly Gent Yesterday.

In the Supermarked. I was doing some fruit and veg shopping and noticed him struggling to open the produce bag. I've struggled with them before so I wondered if I should help him or would he feel I was being patronised.

As I walked past him I jokingly said, "you have to spit on it"! I always wet my thumb and index finger to open the bags.

We laughed and he went pretendy "ptui ptui" on the bag.

I went around and got some tomatoes and deliberated whether I should get the lemons from USA or limes from Aus.

When I looked up he was still patiently struggling with the bag.

I felt bad then about the flippant spit comment and said "can I help you"? He gave me the bag and I showed him how I lick my thumb and finger and the bag opened straight away! (It's not always that easy).

Anyway we had shared another laugh about it and went about our shopping.

I had to get the fruit and veg guy to help me with mine once.

Thanks Icy, I would never have gotten that sucker open if it wasnt for your help 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I think some are pointing out icy, that you licked your fingers and put them on another persons bag, therefore leaving your saliva on their bag. They could have touched the bit your licked fingers touched, then put their own finger in their mouth for some reason and got your germs (if you had any).

I doubt the bags have germs on them. Ours are on a roll, you rip one off. The next bag will only be touched by the person using it.

It's not as if she applied a big gob of spit to the old mans bag.

She licked her thumb/finger. By the time the fruit/vegies went i it would have dried killing off all germs with it.

I am sure the old bloke was grateful icy.

And besides - the old bloke was probably pushing a trolley or carrying a basket both of which would have had a guzzillion more germs that icy's thumb.

Community Service award for you, icy.

I just rub the bag with my thumb and index finger on one opening corner that seems to get the open.

usually i rub with my index finger and thumb just on the top middle of the bag which opens it most of the time

if not, i rub my face a few times for the natural oils which does the trick

next time i'll check-out the corner of the bag

cheers

Signatures suck.

I think it must be the Christmas Spirit Icy, I find myself getting things off supermarket shelves for people, and giving way to all traffic and pedestrians lately, with a smile and a wave & everyone is smiling back lol

I also have trouble opening those plastic bags for for fruit and veggies and the plastic carry baskets in both major supermarket chains are absolutely disgusting and grotty. Why don't they ever wash them out?
